Just looking closely at the cover on the website, very nicely done.

The Wire is one of those mags that sometimes I have no problem getting and then other times I can't find it anywhere.

No, I don't think so.

I managed to find it here in Brazil so surely you can find a copy in London. Usually any of the music mega stores or WH Smith has it.

I’m too poor to buy it at the moment; I keep going in to WHSmiths to read bits when I have time. I went to the ‘Feedback order from noise’ gig the other week, Alvin Lucier was excellent. Details of the piece are here http://www.l-m-c.org.uk/texts/feedbackal.html if anybody’s interested. It was really amazing, I thought that my ears had broken and it sounded like the bird was in my head, which was quite fucked up! Did anybody hear the wire taper?

hey steev, did you take out any ads in the wire? that is bullshit. and $100 is well worth it since it is one of the few music mags worth reading. For my money I get 14 issues, i don't know how many cds and I find out about a heck of a lot of musicians I wouldn't have heard otherwise. I think it is well worth it

i order mine from my local newsagent and have him text me when it comes in. it's the only way i can be sure not to miss a copy...
i've been moving house and unpacking over the last week so am saving the big read for sunday, when i've beaten back the temporary chaos. think doc actually got to read it before me for a change. truly a miracle. no-one reads it until i've had my turn, hehe...

go to V/VM's webpage and poke around about the Wire and Scanner...the wire had some things to not say about V/VM and V/VM has some very interesting...and funny..things to say about the wire.

http://brainwashed.com/vvm

or maybe just search via google or some shit...

hey here's the article....

http://www.angbase.com/interviews/vvm.html

here's the bit i liked:

"2. the wire article was enthusiastic and hype-ish - since then their (the wire) reviews have been less than friendly (in my opinion) towards your work - how do you view the press in general and the wire in particular when it comes to making music? does the press affect what direction you take in any way?

yeah the wire have virtually ignored us ever since i called scanner a twat as they are friends with him. but that's up to them i still stand by the fact he's a twat. but yeah the press need the musicians as much as we need the press. but what is sad is press which needs advertising revenue because then you read not a review but a tactfully considered review to keep the advertising money rolling in. i never advertise anywhere - so i think that leaves journalists and the press free to call it good or shit and i'm happy with either."

decide for yourself...does the wire actually review new music or do they review what sells magezines?

i mean the cover issue of aphex twin for his remix album? i mean that album ment fuck all, it was a collection of old tracks.

as i see it, some people like to be told what's good and others like to make their mind up for themselves. that's not to say that the wire doesn't review anything that's good, it's just to say that they put their reviews where their money is...or something like that.

the aphex cover was for, i believe, rephlexs 5th or 10th anniversary actually. What I love about the wire is the fact that in the same mag they could have an article raving about a band and then they could have a review bashing the same band. they put radiohead on their cover which they took a lot of shit from their fans for. they put alvin lucier and fennesz and art ensemble of chicago and tortoise. that is kind of a wide range of fans. they review music which they may think is important or deserves mention good or bad. i think you should make up your own mind and not let a band tell you how to think because did you ever think that they may be put off because the wire doesn't feel their music is worth mention any more? or can that not be

does radiohead really need mention over any cd that the wire reviews? i mean why did they put radiohead on the cover? it's not like radiohead has done anything prolific lately....do you really think that the cover with radiohead or aphex for that matter is a serious attempt to convey integrity of opinion? really, think between the lines...why not put somebody else on the cover who is unknown, interesting, and thought provoking....

does radiohead actually move brain cells?

I've had a couple of reviews in the wire mag in the past, and none of the labels had adverts in the mag.

As for the example of a band getting contradictory reviews in the same magazine, or subsequent issues, it happens all the time. There are a lot of freelance writers for the mag, with a lot of opinions.

The mag isn't to everyones taste though, I can understand that, I quite often get fed up with it, but where else are you going to find a collection of the same topics /artists in one magazine?
