The last double album on FatCat was amazing too. When they're not doing Black Dice style sound FX wankoffs, their psychedelic pop is absolutely fucking SOARING, like what I always hoped Radiohead could sound like.

Apparently they've made an album with acid folk legend Vashti Bunyan which is incredible though I've not heard that yet.

The whole psychedelic / acid / folk / jazz / improv / tronica thing is really cooking on gas at the moment.

Oh yess, 'Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished’, great title, great record, not inferior to Sung Tongs.
Do you know smth more about this album with Bunyan? Any suggestion on any seminal Bunyan record?
Cheers Knid

Well, Tagliatella, I only have one album called 'Another Diamond Day', and I really like that one - be warned, it really is pure folk. But it's her voice that is mind blowing, so pure, soooooo cool.

For other more modern psych-folk stuff, definitely look out for anything by Devendra Barnhart, who was discovered by Swans' Michael Gira, and makes the maddest, most lo-fi (but with incredible songwriting) snippets of song. He can be hard going cos it's laced with madness and stuff, but it's worth it. Definitely seek out a new album by a duo called Cocorosie - it's two sisters with the most beautiful voices, kind of like a high-pitched Billie Holliday meets Joni Mitchell, with freaky lo fi electronics and beatbox under their folkiness. Also the Memory Band have 2 EPs out, but wait for their album which has all those tracks and more... that is pure "E folk", like blissful, euphoric, modern but ancient and all round fucking lovely. Also keep an eye out for anything by Kathryn Williams, particularly her new album which is all cover versions of everything from Byrds to Nirvana, and her 'Demons In Cases' EP with Pedro on Moshi Moshi, which is the one record ever made that REALLY deserves the term 'folktronica'...
