jamie at RFH
the boy was on fire. i was almost in tears at points. i've not been out for a little while and to see something that good was almost too much. he totally stole the show, i thought. his set seemed to be the most focussed i've seen him live - controlled mentalism. i was speechless.
i was enjoying squarepusher but was a bit bemused that he only played for about 10 minutes?? |

I agree totally - as I mentioned on another thread, that was definitely the best I've seen him play. Fucking outstanding. Please someone tell me a recording of it exists!
Mr Fiasco has really stepped up his game as well, he was all over those cameras and video mixer like an octopus. The helmet-mounted "GobCam" was a brilliant touch too. |

i was blown away ..totally in love with it.. those opening few vocal harmonies he did were just too beautifull.. ..
it just makes me so fucking happy watching him like no-one else can.. didnt think the set as a whole was as good as the recent cargo one.. but it seemed that he was under pressure to condense alot of ideas and imrpovisation into a much shorter space than usual.. not much time for the jams to meander.. still, i loved it.. ive seen him 8 or so times now and every time he suprises with something... that gob cam was hilarious.... as for squarepusher.. amazing track but was a bit restrained for me.. was hoping for some live bass action or something.. or perhaps something that merged withthe themes of the evening a little better.. like a set that focussed on his more electro-acoustic-derived compositions... the lowest point of the night for me was the flabby stomping drum int he final aphex interpretation...it was just too literal an interpretation and sounded a bit Barn dance-y.. the other detail around the drums was great but drowned out.. the antheil piece was so mindblowingly terrifying i thought.. loved the Leger Ballet Mechanique film too.. the reich stuff was really nice especially the violin one i thought.. the cage piece after jamie was great too.. one of the metal sounds was exaclty the same as this classic jungle nasty synth sound that appears on some amen andrews track... but .. yes .. jamie made it for me definately... |
