And who exactly is Strictly Kev?!?

Hey,

Again I am puzzled and lost (in music). Been checking out the Solid Steel session on Groovetech by S_C and someone called "Strictly Kev". Now, this seems particularly like deja vu here, but who exactly is Strictly Kev? Or, if anonymity is the name of the game - how come he's doing a session with S_C?

No answers on postcards please.

C.

Strictly kev is a ColdCut Dj - he didn't do a session WITH us - he was just mixing the second half of the sure i guess

I always thought that was such a good name for a dj..like "Strictly" being cool and "Kev" being a bit crap... Like a contradiction, taking the piss out of cool dj names...

Right thanks man. I knew I had seen the name before somewhere. BTW, nightmare about the delay of R_D - how does something like that happen in the end, and wouldn't someone/company be held accountable for potential loss of earnings?

i think strickly kev is now a part of Dj Food, the name coldcut used to use but dont.. it kinda like a facemask for a ninjatune release ...

I think the name dj Food was more like.. Food for the dj, i.e. get your DJ fodder here, wicked concept, I have to rate the Coldcut boys, they've always been years ahead of their time... The Journeys by Dj mix was eclecticism before it went shit, they knew how to do it properly....

Still not heard it - although I remember being too much of a snobby technohead when I was younger and it came out....

See it's been re-released with even more raves about it now than then though, so that should say something about it.......or they've just decided to market the fuck out of it!!!

journeys by dj was the soundtrack to a very odd experience of mine. it had been a long night, so long that myself and two friends were listening to said cd while watching saturday morning kids tv with the sound down, as you do. after ingestion of some tea containing extract of temazepam, followed by some inadvisably giant hotknives (remember them?), something very strange began to happen. the chirpy presenters on tv began acting in time with the music. i'm not talkin a few simple connections here - i'm talkin, scratchin on the cd, tv presenter makes scratchin record movement with arm while smiling knowingly at us and winking. we all 3 of us shared the same, and it went on for the entire cd. i was utterly flabbergasted, sayin to my pals 'do you - but that can't - it's not possible - ' meanwhile tv presenter nods and smiles in acknowledgement while performing another series of unlikely body movements in perfect sync with coldcut's mixing.

very odd indeed, but somehow reassuring to know that reality is so flexible.

raw digits delay

well its the manufacturing plants responsibility so we have to see if they will recompense us.

its difficult to know what the effect is, thats the frustrating thing. we'll never know if things wouldhave been better if the release wasnt delayed

Sounds like a nightmare, as you can imagine that these guys will not only be insured up to their armpits against these kind of events, but more likely will have some clause in your agreement which caveats any potential claim. Good luck on that one though, it's really not fair considering your efforts.

Maybe now would be a good time to kick off the Erutufon Poster Campagin again. I recommend that we all print out the poster as flyers and deposit at the doorway of each good club we go to.....as well as scatter them around the place freely.

What the hell man.....it's my companies paper I'd be using anyway!!!

Coldcut are gods

I remember seeing Coldcut and DJ Food doing a DJ set at the old Concorde in Brighton. 4 guys on 4 decks in different permutations for the whole evening. Every style and tempo of dance music was represented, and the mixing was impeccably musical. Throughout the night, they would tease by cutting up little bits of Roy Ayers' "Sunshine" over different beats - hip hop, house, d&b, and particularly effectively over Squarepusher's "Conumber", which had just been released. When they finally dropped "Sunshine" on its own at the end of their set, the place went MENTAL. It wuz gud.

The ninjatunes guys are awesome. I saw them in Washington DC back in 97 or 98 and like was said before they were on 4 tables and dropped all kinds of mental tracks. they also had a huge projection screen behind them showing old skateboard videos that were on all the tvs placed around the club. nothing like getting oiled in a club listening to those guys while watching patt duffy tear it up in Plan B's Qustionable video.

bitch one: i had a similar experience to what you had one time. but I was watching dexter's labrotory while listening to depth charge's electroboogie mix after smoking a lot of four way.
