i can't recommend anything, but i recently had the same plans - maybe a 4-channel compressor for playing live (2 channels to optimize the red sound darkstar gain, 2 channels to pre-master the output) - had a look at the behringer mdx4400, but i wonder if this cheap thing will do fine ... any comments, please? :-?

It depends what you want it to do. I used to use a behringer composer on my sound system purely as a gain reduction device (to stop over enthusiastic dj's blowing the rig). In my opinion they work really well and are very transparent (at reasonable levels of gain reduction), which is what I wanted.
If you want to make things sound compressed though, you don't really want a transparent sounding compressor.... In that case have a look at the dbx 266xl which is in the same price band. |
