one for the nerds: ctrl-alt-delete

Here's an article about the inventor of this key combination: http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald...ws/7817919.htm

I love this quote:

Quote:
At a 20-year celebration for the IBM PC, Bradley was on a panel with Microsoft founder Bill Gates and other tech icons. The discussion turned to the keys.

"I may have invented it, but Bill made it famous," Bradley said.

Gates didn't laugh.

I just wanted to take the opportunity to say PC’s SUCK THE BIG ONE!! There’s not much out there that is actually better, but that still doesn’t change the fact that PCs SUCK THE BIG ONE, BIG STYLE. Every day that I have to sit at my desk bashing away on tha pieces of shit pile of out dogbreath, stinking wanking bullturds just makes me glad that I haven’t and never will, shell out even one penny for the one thing that has to have heralded a new world order of crashing standards, bitter disappointment and now more recently the end of creativity and human ingenuity…

To think that that twat Jack Straw has recommended that Bill Gates get a Honoury Knighthood for Services to Global Enterprises – what a cock, I wander how often Jack Straw actually has to use any of Bill’s products, maybe he should ask some of his staff, maybe if he really thought about it, this is like giving a design award to Akai for selling loads of cheap CD players as opposed to Philips for inventing it – twat!

PCs SUCK THE BIG ONE – OH YES THEY DO…

BOO RUBBISH....

pc's are allright, your pc might suck, but not all pc's suck, its ussually a reflection of the user.

You see this is just another one of those tired old lines. I mean sure its an old, old saying that a poor workman blames his tools – but since when did shit tool manufacturers get off telling all their customer that they’re shitheads – because this is what they are doing when they say things like its more a reflection of the user, they’re saying you’re a shithead twat that’s too stupid to use our tools…

Well, this coming from a company that has to run courses to train people up to do one of the most soul destroying jobs on the planet – the job of keeping rooms full of PCs running.

Looks lets not beat about the bush here, they’re shit and its not so much about whether the technology works (they’ve managed that bit), its how it works and the attitude of the people who make it – the PC is a soulless piece of shite, devoid of any enthusiasm or ingenuity or creativity.

Anyone who has to look after these things deserves danger money, danger money that they can use when they wake up one morning and realise that they can’t face another day of managing a huge vertical stack of shit that spans two decades of shite legacy technology that started with a bag of toss and got steadily worse...

It stands for mediocre, just getting enough done to get by, it stands for everything that is now wrong with most creative industries – rooms full of pseudo-creatives doing just what they need to tick off the little boxes on their intranet schedules so that their managers can look in MS Project to see if the team is on target or not and sit back and relax, not realising that the whole pile of wank is steering inexorably, blindling toward the rocks…

I’m not here to talk about Apple, they are almost as bad at least they set out with a purpose in mind and make something with enthusiasm. In the main their difficulties stem from competing against the PC. But the Macintosh is a still a PC and much of my arguments can include them…

I hate PCs, I hate the burgeoning array of talentless tosspots that it has enabled, I hate all the money men looking at their spreadsheets and data deciding that new is too risky, lets do what we did last year.

But what I really hate are tosspots around me telling me that we shouldn’t do something new and exciting because they haven’t seen it in the shops yet and that if someone else hasn’t done it then maybe we shouldn’t do it.

Is anyone getting me yet? Do you understand this is coming from people who sit and work with PCs each and every day, they love their PCs to the point where they scared of innovating and using their ingenuity, they want the easy life, the mediocre way – the PC way…

MASSIVE BAG OF ARSE – THE LOT OF ‘EM…

bollocks ..........so ok in short grobelaar, what do you propse as a solution? and what is a alternative that will better suit you?

have you ever had a pleasurebale experence around computers and if you hate them so much why are you using them?

look buddy i know what your talking about, but its all we got, and honestly i cant organize a team of programers that would want to sit down and develop a new OS that would be better or more efficient than what is avalible now. do you?

i dunno, grobs. that's pretty strong stuff you are saying there.

and i really disagree - macs are crap too.

i had a mac - g4, top of the line, and to be honest, it sucked. it worked well for about a yr, but after that i had constant problems with it to the point that 3 yrs later i couldn't copy and paste without it crashing. and have you been reading all the shit in the news about how apple has been having loads of problems with there hardware dying after a couple of months or a year. i dunno. and the company in general was one of the worst run companies in history. pretty computers, but way too overpriced.

i get annoyed when people complain about shit instead of just doing something about it. if you feel so strongly that the whole format of the computer needs to be changed (to the point of cursing them everytime you sit in front of one), than go work on changing it.

Hahahahaha, I’m having a rant and besides I lumped Macs in their too and if anyone actually read any of the rant you’d realise that I’m not whinging about the technology per se, I’m having a go at the attitude and philosophy behind the technology, particularly the people who are behind it.

The computer is just a tool, you know its like Lego is good stuff when you are kid, but as you get older you realise the true genius lies in the person who designed and made the bricks. PCs have become the lego bricks of a modern technological revolution and they are flawed, badly design – they are adequate for the job – they fill mine and other people’s lives with frustration and now they are eating away at our abilities to be ingenius and innovative – people are slaves to these bricks, they don’t see their flaws and in fact model their lives and work ethic on them and that’s a bad state affairs.

I’m not talking about missing files, or crashing OS, or fancy cases with nice logos, I'm talking about the whole philosophy behind PCs…

I mean that aside and I don’t wish to repeat myself, but I’m a creative and to have people I work with turn around and say they don’t want even try and implement something I’ve design because they haven’t seen someone else do it yet – that they haven’t seen it in the shops yet and that they want to do it like people did it last year and the year before that is utter shit of the highest order - I might as well go home as being a designer is a pretty shit job if you can't do something new...

And yeah, I’ve hijacked this thread, but I feel this is all indicative of a make-do-world that has been exemplified by the whole PC industry and if that is heavy shit then so be it – look out creative conservatism and retro-hell is coming to a spreadsheet and a product schedule near you…

um, maybe i'm slow but what is "the whole philosophy behind PCs"?

also, your whole rant on the fact that people don't want to take risks and try stuff that wasn't done before, has nothing to do with computers - that attitude existed long before in invention of the PC and will exist for long after...

Jus' lettin' off a bit o' steam. I know you cats love it and forewarned is forearmed and all that shit...

Just look out, there's people everywhere with big coats that say 'Hey I'm creative' and they're not they full o' shit...

As to a plan o' action, I'm doing what I always do, sticking to my guns - its just disappointing to find out that people aren't on the same wavelength... These people need to stay outta my way and get a bloody day job...

grobelaar..not getting ya here.. well, personally I lost everything for mac.. Damn, I have NO time for that computer anymore. You waste sooo much time on getting the shit working (if broken) and gotta wait for mac versions of popular software. It´s such a joke reading the mac-sites (yes I do, I work with mac everyday) - people are sooo excited about ...everything. It´s like a hype! Jesus, no wonder why it still lives. The customers are nuts. Year after year they still spend $$$$ on every single new machine coming up. It´s insane!! Better customer won´t be found!!
And the best part; When reading forums you get this sentense often: Well, seen the new G-whatever ??? It´s a blast !!! makes my old G-whatever(-1) looks like shit. So after that they start dissing the older machines. Like they are crap.. but one year earlier they were the best!??? (hope you get me right). Don´t get it.

Nomatter how good they look (which sell !) - I don´t wanna get tied on arms and legs. I wanna be free with my computer. Be able to find a lot of usefull programs that makes my day with my computer a little more usefull.

damn

I love my pc..
Never been down since XP..!!! Think it´s a question about how you work.

But grobe... one thing is sure! LEGO rocks...ofcourse - it´s from denmark.. hahaha

my mac crashed on me once super fucking hard....couldnt get the damn thing just to turn on.....
i bought a book
read it.....
fixed the mac myself......
never had a problem since
the thing with Macs is that everything is so open and easy to take in and out and really customize to your liking that ppl will often delete shit they shouldnt have and theyll encounter problems later on and wonder how the fuck they got in that pickle.....speaking of pickles i also enjoy relish on my hot dog
