Thanks for your concise answers. I was kind of hoping for a little more than that though!

looked him up today and found a list of movies by him. I didn't realize he did Breaking The Waves or Dancer in the Dark, which I thought were incredibley excellent films, but the movie Dogville wasn't one of the films of his that was on the list:

Breaking the Waves (1996)
Dancer in the Dark (2000)
The Element of Crime (1984)
Forbrydelsens Element
Medea (1987)
Zentropa (1991)

I put all the ones that I haven't seen on my list to rent.

thanks.

Here's a nice synopsis for it:
"Cursed with a disease that threatens to take her sight, Selma Yeskova (Björk) struggles to raise money for an operation that could save her son from the same fate. To ease her anxiety, Selma relies on a dream life that takes the form of elaborate musical numbers. After she's accused of stealing at work, Selma's musical reverie helps her persevere against mounting odds."

It is a musical and when I first started watching it I had my doubts, but I ended up loving it. I cried thru the whole thing. So if you don't like tear jerkers, this one isn't the one for you. But for me it was an excellent film.

The Three color series?
You mean Red,White, Blue Probably would have to be my personal top ten
Just looked up the director in my Netflix's search and they were made by a polish director Krzysztof Kieslowski.
Damn, they don't have "short film about killing" but they have the movie Decalogue so I've put that one in my rental queue.
thanks for the info, again.

hmmmm.......808......good

ok, sorry ... it's a typicall van trier movie with björk in the main role. it's the whole time in dogma style, exept when selma is dreaming it's becoming a cheesy hollywood style picture.
emotionally it can bring you down like every other van trier. for me, it's not good as breaking the waves, idiots or dogville (very good), but you should watch it if you haven't watched it yet.

I've seen it, but wasn't really too into it. I love action/spy/adventure type stuff too.
but you're right, it is really fast paced movie.

Smoke is a nice movie, too. It's about a small tobacco shop in NY and NY people.
Has anybody watched Matrix 3 ? The second is pure shit. Nice pix but the story .... the first one was one of the best cyberpunk stories i saw and they made such a crap shit of it. it's sad.

Brazil:

brilliant movie...I've been thinking alot about it this morning and all the symbolism and dark humor and wit...it was incredible...the idea of the subtle loss of our freedoms and how....(the movie was filled w/ forms to fill out, to do this and that and you had to follow the proper procedure, just to have your airconditioning fixed)

The way that the story looked at terrorism as a part of life and I realized that this must be something that British people live w/...that is terrorism being so much a part of your life that it's treated rather indifferently...
maybe?...If someone from the UK, could answer this, them maybe I could understand more...but it did seem that the movie was aiming at this type of ease about terrorism...as tho it's not even having an effect on people anymore....

My favorite character was Robert DeNiro's character as the the vigilante air conditioning and heating repair man....I loved the way he acted suspicious at everything and everyone and swooped around like a super hero....and how he became a vigilante cause
he didn't want to fill out the "27b stroke 6" forms and that he didn't get into this business for the paperwork, but for the excitement of working on the air conditioners...fuking funny as hell..

I loved this one and kept finding myself laughing hysterically at some of the parodies that the writer made...

worth watching to say the least...

more like completely mental weird, peter greenaway, gotta love his mis en scene. 'drowning by numbers' also classic greenaway mentalness.

Brazil is fantastic. I've got to watch it again.

I'll also attach 'suicide club' as the latest bit of japanese weirdness. another soon to be dead thread, should have posted it here in the first place. http://www.no-future.com/vbulletin/s...&threadid=5806

I watched Punch Drunk Love on Sunday - highly recommended even though it's got Adam Sandler in it - he is a revelation in his role - I don't want to say too much about it cos I knew nothing of the the film when I watched it (apart from the fact that it was written and directed by the absurdly talented Paul Thomas Anderson) and I think I enjoyed it more because of that.

I loved that too OU, sandler can be funny it seems, and emily watson was more normal which made for a better performance. Interesting direction as well.

Also saw a gem by Jan Svankmajer last night on C4, 'Little Otik' Didn't realise he'd made any live action films, this was great, lots of dark humour and twig attacks.

I would also highly recommend 'Punch Drunk Love.'
Adam Sandler redeems himself especiallly in the phone conversation scene...which has to be one of the best filmed depictions of raw anger yet.
