I was surprised how it was even better on second viewing.. I think it had started to slip into the more wisecracking/ironic territory of Malkevich and Adaptation in my memory, which is inaccurate.

I doubt my memory does it justice again already. Which seems apt.

I've no idea how it gets away with itself.

This is looking intriguing, from the 'There Will Be Blood' director.

I think Joaquin Phoenix has perfected a menacing smirk to Jack Nicholson levels.

I'm not sure about your initial interpretation being inaccurate. Maybe that wise-cracking stuff is there, depending on your mood when you see it. First time I saw it I thought it was really sentimental. I think it might be really different each time you see it. Well, I have to see it a couple more times before I can confirm that. If that's true, then maybe that's because it gives your brain so much to do, and you really have to work hard to reconstruct this world in your own way (the 'you' of that particular time) to make sense of it.

I was definitely more focussed watching it this time because I remembered how difficult I found it the first time. It's demanding as fuck but the way it's made really makes you want to understand it.

It was a lot easier seeing it in the cinema. The only distraction was half the audience leaving.

there are so many great stephen chow films. Shaolin Soccer and God of Cookery, for example. Especially God of Cookery for me, a Hong Kong spoof of the Japanese Iron Chef phenomenon is just a great theme for a movie of this kind. Not everything translates, but to me that was part of the fun.

hehe, as I suspected.

On a positive note, Kaufman is making a HBO series with Catherine Keener. I think he's writing all of it, directing some of it, and producing. That should be fucking ace.

Yeah, I've enjoyed Shaolin Soccer, but never heard God of Cookery.

You may wanna grab $1,000 and enjoy this place.
Gonna be once in a lifetime thing. Sell your gears and go to this place, guys.
I like the fact that they only list Beer and Japanese sake for their drink menu.
The simplicity of their menu scares me.

It's in Ginza, Tokyo, Japan which is a famous luxury area.
He seems to be Japan's Human National Treasure.
Maybe $300 could be quite reasonable.

I'm looking at the review of the restaurant and he seems to be very a classic old school Tokyo guy that he will actually scold the customer if you aren't doing it right.

EDIT: Seems like you can get quite full with $300. Each portions seems quite big at the place.

That looks really good. Tsukiji fish market is amazing, I'd happily watch this for that alone. Want to go back.

I got told I was eating Sushi wrong in a couple of places, although that was Osaka, mainly for not treating the rice with enough respect.

Saw this last night at the BFI (with a Q&A with Ice T and the film's producers beforehand). Really good. Basically Ice T talks to his friends about the craft of rap. Amazing list of names, and even people who you wouldn't think would be great surprise you.

watched it last night, it was great. you literally sit and wait for each individual piece of sushi and eat it right away once on your plate. he makes pieces for women slightly smaller than pieces for men so that the two can keep pace while having a set meal together, and positions the piece in line with whether you are left or right handed. the octopus is massaged for 40 to 50 minutes. I want to go there.

I watched Ted yesterday, which was very good. Not all the jokes hit, but real real belly laughs to be had.

Anyone else seen The Limits Of Control?
Watched it after seeing Broken Flowers.. which this was nothing like.
Liked it, specially bits like the flamenco scene and the naked girl in the raincoat, it was like a silly dream.
This trailer makes more sense than the film does:

Music was great.. Boris Sun O smiley etc
