Nice one. I'll be grabbing this.

I was meant to be doing a mix with soul and funk amongst other stuff before Christmas but one of the records that was meant to be included is fucking snapped! Gutted. Had to order a new copy so won't be able to get it done til after new year.

I am white and European, and the records are by black artists, well done. So what would YOU play in a soul/funk set?

in order for the track list to be generic as opposed to an interpretation of generic, Pig would have to be black – makes perfect sense to me

This coming from some ignorant who knows nothing about UFO's but tries to use ridicule. Everything you post reads like some teenager but you're in your 30s.

I'd play some Fats Domino.

When it comes to Black people in the US from the hood old school would be like Marvin Gaye~Got to give it up, The Manhattans - Kiss And Say Goodbye, Bobby Brown, R Kelly, P-Funk, moaning and groaning R&B type music. Not so much the 70s Jamiroquai soul music.

My advice. Learn individuality and originality along with having cohunes to take a stand on an issue that isn't very popular. You'll be better off for it. You'll have more self worth.

Ignorant is just posting one liners and put downs like the silly UFO ridicule attempts here. It's easy to see who's really ignorant. It's also to easily see through politics. We all come from different cultures. My advice is to just accept another persons perspective on music.

edit - like a mature adult.

By the way, isn't Jamie Lidell - Supercollider from the no-future camp? It's like Blackface all over again. Here's some advice. Don't do that.

FIY. I grew up poor and around Blacks in some instances. I'm just glad I didn't turn out to be a wigger. It was a cultural experience. That being said I would be lying if I claimed to know soul music. As a general rule if you grew up listening to all the classic RnB music and can connect to African American culture then it means you know Black music. If you are white like me and grew up around alternative, new wave and that sort of thing it means you're white. Some European or rock artist were inspired by soul and blues music but that was more like a style. I did observe Black playing their style of hood music living in Texas and NY but I couldn't name most of it. Techno and house is what actually got me into music as a teenager.
