Soundcard advice..

My Saffire LE seems to be going mental since i installed snow leopard.. clicking on and off constantly then sometimes working , sometimes not turning on at all.. The focusrite support don't seem to be able to help me so i'm looking into alternatives..

If i'm gonna get a new one it can't be too expensive.. needs to have midi..
any recomendations?

cheers..

secondhand MOTU 828mkII firewire is a decent cheap soundcard. probably pick one up for 200 quid on SOS or ebay.

I had nothing but bother with the Saffire LE we have at work, the software it comes with is fucking shite.

Also after having such good experiences with the stability of the Motu828mkII (which I also recommend highly) The mkIII is a lot more unstable.

its got 2 1/4" jack inputs, line or mic, you can plug any synth or machine into it
the knob on the top controls the audio input volume, which i find pretty handy
low latency, it looks plasticy and rubbish but its a good soundcard
specially for your pocket

I am still using my M Audio Firewire 410 which works fine on snow leopard - been discontinued though although I think there is a similar one that they have out now- I never thought I was going to recommend it, it was a bag o shite when I used to use it with my PC, but on the mac now it's worked fine without a glitch.. funny that eh?

I would check you have the latest drivers though before taking the plunge with buying something new though as according to focusrite your interface should work with Snow leopard... Did you really NEED to upgrade your OS? I tend to only do it when forced, if it aint broke & all that....

ooh yeah.. that was great. I even locked the screen for a few seconds, too. Then I got to hit ctrl alt delete again to unlock it.

going from tiger to snow leopard gave me a really nice boost in efficiency. I'm not sure if the same is true of going from leopard > snow leopard.

lots of nice interface improvements though.

I only have it myself as it was installed on this machine when I bought it.. Thought I was going to have problems with the M audio box, but it's worked fine even though there is no support from M Audio for Snow leopard with the 410 - did have to track down a work around to get it to work tho...
