Any good free vst compressor/limiters?

I'm currently using the Kjaerhus Audio Classic Compressor which is pretty decent, but wondered if anyone knew of any free alternatives that sound really nice?

i really like blockfish, although i more often use it for limiting rather than compression.

what are you trying to compress and what do you want to achieve?

some more options are the bootsy plugins :

http://varietyofsound.wordpress.com/downloads/

de la mancha :

http://www.delamancha.co.uk/D2.htm

I bought his bathtub compressor which is really good for when you want to get those clicky transient type sounds.

then there are the antress modern plugs

http://antress.er-webs.com/

and Christian Budde does some nice stuff :

http://www.savioursofsoul.de/Christi...gins/dynamics/

now you can try them all and tell us which one did what you need

I'm basically looking to compress and limit completed audio I've played and mixed live.

Wanted something a bit warm, but not too colourful, just so it sounds a little bit healthier

maybe combine some light saturation and some light compression rather than relying on the compressor to do something 'warm'.

or just buy vintage warmer.

like MDK sez, always best to go for multiple stages of light compression rather than trying to get there in one step if you want it warmer. like ferox->compressor->ferox for example

limit yourself to -3dB gain reduction at the most at each stage.

cheers for that tip, Steev

I did exactly that, with that guy's Broadcast compressor in the middle, which is a really nice three-stage compressor. It really brings out the reverb on the claps well.

also the thing here about

http://www.uaudio.com/webzine/2010/f...y%2Fpower.html

"One basic rule is that each successive compressor has a lower compression ratio than the one before it, and the first one is typically just catching the peaks."
