sound control..help

having a bit of a nightmare down the club..

the town hall have been down checking all our db levels inside , outside , up side...
it seems we have to get some sort of limiter/compressor special db level controller-me bob.
the inspectors are saying we have to get this particular make of machine, they claim its the only machine that does it? and hey -ho it just happens to be about 2grands worth of kit.
i pretty sure there are limiters and compressors that could do they same job for 200euros..
madrid has a total monopoly on these sort of things as theres only one street where you can find shops (maybe 3 of them ) where they sell sound stuff and they all keep the price nice and high... fecks
and on the council side of things there trying to shut down as many clubs/bars as they can at the moment.. trying to get licences changed to not include live music anymore and saying you have to get double doors and all this other stuff which was never neseccery before the money started running out and everyone went fucking MAD!! grrrr

anyway, between the council and the shops..
im sure there pulling a fast-one..

any of you club/tech savy ppl know about these things?
legal levels of db in clubs.
types of machines that can measure / control levels.
any legal points..
any knowledge would be great and much appreciated... ta v much!

I guess that's the disadvantage of being in the centre of the (spanish) city.

Attitude of the officials here is a bit strange recently, all those shut down venues, prohibited beach parties. Just like they didn't like to be a tourist country anymore. :/

its the bleedin neighbours..
theyve reckoned that seeing as other clubs are getting shut down then this is as good a time as any to get fired into us.
the license is on our side though and as long as we keep things official and get the right equpiment installed and do all the things there asking ..
then theres shouldnt be any closing down..
there just wont be any bloody money left!!!

o well..
its for the love of the music..right?

The thing about limiters is that if you end up getting a cheap one it'll sound shit... so you gotta be careful.

we have a slightly older clientele and they are always really quiet and curtious when leaving/entering. weve left loads of posters on the street and inside and out saying to keep the noise down outside.
we always tidy up the street after we shut(we dont have to do this)
and weve down umpteen things to keep the neighbours happy... and they are..
all except one or two.. who hate us , hate the club , hate music , hate fun , hate life...
and they are going to make my life hell.

sorry.. really just needing to vent this.

i should just look at my paragliding thread and forget all about it!

try this place - they ship all over Europe, pretty good for the mainland. All the dudes in Finland bought from there for similar reasons.

Yup, I'm in Barna.
Didn't notice much changes on the clubmap for the last 2 years, apart from row14 opening. There are lots of seasonal places, which are opened only for summer and shut down afterwards, and some of them don't open again (liquid).
But most of the places which are open whole year aren't in any danger of being closed I think. Most of them are in much louder places then el perro though (at least as far as I remember your club ).

But problably it's just one shite neighbour you have. Find out who he/she is and contract morros to get rid of them

edit: oh, you know who they are. good. better to know your enemy

yeah, i visited on 2007/2008 new year's eve with my gf. Even approached you but you seemed busy and I was drunk ;P

We had fun and liked the place anyway

Yeah, I'm probably (99%) gonna be on the party @ el prat beach on friday. I'll let you know when it's 100% so, in case we land in the same place, we can have a pint or two.

edit:

errr it was 2006/2007 i think.

ISO standards are usually used but it is down to local councils how they implement it afaik.
you could have 2 problems, noise pollution leaking out, this can depend on your zoning, residential areas are more strict (no noise after 9pm for example), the other is noise damage to patrons, i.e. too loud inside potentially causing damage to your customers hearing.
a limiter will solve both problems, whereas soundproofing alone can solve the first one. can you link the piece of kit they suggest? it might be the case that it is an all-in-one limiter that can handle multiple speakers, you might only have 2-4 speakers where a stereo unit or 2 would suffice.
