tune ID

been after this since 1992 when i had this tape - great tunes, shit mixing from tanith at universe

massive chunky rave tune starts about 6'50 sounds like it might be lenny dee or maybe a rotterdam tune - anyone?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pYYecVMnZk

the mc says' it's the alpha bass sound of the sub weight' or something which i always thought was the name of the tune, but a search for that turns up nowt.

Can't do YouTube at work, but is this the tape with The Producer on the flip side from Universe - Mind, Body and Soul ?
I was there that night

If so I've got a tracklist at home somewhere. Pretty much know all the tunes off it anyway so I should be able to ID it for you.

yeah thats the tape, dont think mine had the producer on the other side tho

would love the tracklist from the tanith set, it's full of belters, right up my street!

this was the best period for hard ravy techno, just before it started speeding up too much, sperminator an all that

He played Sperminator in that set, didn't he ?

I have really vivid memories of that set (which is rare for me at the time), but that one really stuck out cos it was so different to the more breakbeat led UK hardcore with the sped up female vocals (iirc Top Buzz and Slipmatt were on before him). It was just a bit harder and more pummelling. Still plenty of cheese when you listen back to it now, but by the standards of the time it seemed less so. He pretty much brought the whole tent to a standstill, loads of people just standing with their hands on their heads with that wide-eyed WHAT THE FUCK!?!?!? stare. Ribbz was funny on the mic too. He was one of the better MCs in that he actually shut up from time to time.

Here's the near complete tracklist -

Nasty Django - Urban Partyzan
Ace The Space - 9 Is A Classic
Niko - Oh Yeah
Sperminator - No Women Allowed
Bis Art - Wrong Is Right Remix
T. Vee - Beautiful Symphony
Termo - Tempo
Force Mass Motion - Jack Of Diamonds
Force Mass Motion - Let It Move You
Prophecy - Devastating Rhythm
??
Total Groove - Rave 92
Nu-Tro-Gen - Rollin Reptiles
Super Ragga Gabba - One Mo Rave
Mescalinum United - We Have Arrived (The Mover Remix)
???
Nu-Tro-Gen - Freakin n Humpin
Coda - The Acid Test (Late)
???

The one I really want still hasn't been found, it's a mad acid type affair.

Nah, but if you saw a twat running around wearing a balaclava or stood precariously balanced on top of one of the barriers on one of the podiums being repeatedly told to get down by security.........*ahem*

The other tents were less interesting. The second one, the house tent, which was empty, seemed to be playing remixes of Nirvana every time we went in.

Fuck man, that really did happen ? I was convinced that was happening but none of the other cunts I was with believed me.

No Aphex Twin , not as far as I know, and not on the flyer, which said 'near Bath'.

I went to Big Love too, which said 'near Warminster' on the flyer, and Aphex apparently played, according to the flyer, though the main stages were open air. This was the one were they invited free party soundsystems too.

I had some podium moments too. Oh the shame. And I kept jogging the decks in the DiY tent. I don't think the DiY lot noticed though, they were wasted.

That was Tribal gathering the year after wasn't it ?
Like TPJ, I only ever went to 2 pay parties, Universe In2Orbit and Mind, Body and Soul. Free parties were much better then.

I had another EPIC FAIL that night that I still get ribbed by my mates about. I was a bit, erm, tired and confused as it was getting light in the morning so I went into that horrible nirvana-remix house tent and found a quiet corner to sit down against the edge of the tent. There was nobody sitting anywhere in that corner so I thought, sweet, nice bit of space to sit down and get my head together. I vaguely remember some girl grabbing my arm and trying to tell me not to sit there but it didn't really register. I thought she was saying something about it being wet so I checked the ground carefully and it seemed dry. Sure enough as my head cleared a bit (after somebody else had shook me a tried to get me to move for some reason) I started feeling really, really cold and wet and uncomfortable. I was sat hugging my knees with my head down and when I put my hands down on the ground to push myself up they went up to my wrists in a muddy puddle. I started focusing a bit more and realised I had been sitting in about 4 inches of churned up muddy puddle. I went stumbling out of the tent into the daylight scraping and clawing off this mud and straw from the arse of my jeans. I must have looked pretty suspicious standing there with two handfuls of dripping, muddy brown stuff and the back of my jeans looking like I'd had a huge arse explosion. I remember two girls startling and giving me a wide berth muttering about me being disgusting, so I think it really did look like I'd shat myself. I had to take my top off and tie it round my waist to cover my arse for the rest of the morning and had to wander around freezing cold and shivering in just a t-shirt until the sun came up properly and warmed me up a bit.

nay - it was Tribal Gathering in either 1992 or 1993 - Aphex Twin was billed as DJing with Dr Atmo and Mixmaster Morris in the ambient but he never showed up in that tent but we went to another tiny tent and he was spinning in there IIRC.
