don't ask me why, but i was looking up news items about woolworths. and what a rich seam of intertwining stories it provides. someone should do a film

woolworths had been shit for ages

surprised it hadn't gone under ages ago

bhs is next, I reckon, they occupy a similar space of not really doing anything well or cheap enough.

there seems to be a cull of the grand old brands going on - woolworths, mfi, findus. you could almost see a conspiracy in it. it's like a fire sweeping through a corn field, leaving the land horny for the seeds of globalisation
