Pianos...
I'm looking to get hold of a piano.. which probably wont be that expensive as people are nearly paying to get rid of unwanted ones.. but I don't know what I'm looking for second hand wise... obviously doesn't have to be a real beauty - but I don't want to go to the trouble of getting three mates and a van together to fetch a real nail...
Anyone got any pointers? Spandex - didn't you use to work in an organ shop or something? They didn't sell piano's did they? Cheers |

They did but all I really know about them is that they're very difficult to deliver.

Obvious, but if you can play it first, you should. You'll get a great idea of the general state it's in. A firmer action is better. Reaaaally out of tune tells you it hasn't been looked after, and will probably cost you more money to make playable than the price of a piano tuner. Also, be patient - there are loads of nice pianos around looking for a home - it's so much bother getting it delivered and into the room you want it in that you really want to have your hands on a piano you think you'll stick with for a while.

We inherited a piano recently... the site of the 4 removal men bringing up two flights of stairs was not pretty... the first time they tried to deliver it one of them started hyperventilating and they had to call it off.
It's gloriously out of tune anyway, a couple of keys play crazy three note chords all by themselves. |
