Alexei Sayle's early stuff was amazing.

That's what I liked so much about the Armando Iannucci Show. It really reminded me of that style.

Lena Dunham's 'Tight Shots'.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_7wD...hannel&list=UL

Watched her film, Tiny Furniture....it's good. Didn't realise til the end that the mother and sister were her actual mother and sister.

VEEP is very good, on HBO.
It's Armando Ianucci's translation of The Thick of It for the US.
Good cast too. And Chris Morris directs an episode.

you'd say so? i haven't heard very encouraging things about it. get the impression it's a bit less brutal than thick. no question i'll be giving it a watch anyway, but i've been braced for disappointment

it deffo starts slow, but the insulting and swearing builds up.
i found myself liking it more and more each episode
i'm already a bit of a sucker for shouty JLD so my opinion may be skewed

yeah, i've never knowingly seen JLD in anything besides seinfeld, so i'm interested in seeing her being Not Elaine. assuming that's what she does

Veep is softer and warmer than The Thick of It, doesn't feel as vicious or challenging.
Maybe that's because there's no frightening Malcolm Tucker-type character (they have a White House liaison character instead).
It is a bit more cartoony or sitcom than Thick, but it still has the loose feel and style.

also cos I think the characters aren't really at the thick of it... they're just mainly sidelined.

I did enjoy Veep. Heard an interview with Armando Iannucci saying the same reason it's not a vicious and sweary is because Americans just aren't like that compared to the British.

"Pencil-fucked" is a real political term in the US, though, for when your speech has to be totally rewritten a couple of hours before you have to say it.

Veep's getting better as the series goes on.
The Chris Morris directed ep with the horrible healthy food table was funny. The iPad bit with Jonah was pure The Day Today.
Good actors in that show.

Also I just wanna say how much I mildly enjoy the silliness which is Justified.
Boyd Crowder, Raylon Givens, Art, Winona, the Bennetts... daft.
Good theme tune and titles too.
What a load of crap.
Steve Porcaro out of Toto does the music too. Cool.

I've been getting into Louie C.K.'s show, Louie. It is pretty funny and rather dark and twisted.

Been watching Moone Boy, by Chris O'Dowd about a boy with an imaginary friend (played by O'Dowd). Really funny (although not sure if I find it funny because I know so many Irish people, it really is spot on) It's on Sky, but can be found in other places, no doubt. Worth checking out for sure.

actually, it's semi-autobiographical. O'Dowd had an imaginary friend when he was a kid. It's handled quite well. The story isn't really about his imaginary friend, more about his family and friends. His imaginary friend is just another character.

I never had an imaginary friend when I was growing up, but my mum did. Always felt like I kind of missed out.
