Effing stupid mode on word!!

you know when it over types what youv'e written when you go back instead of writing new text?

how do'u turn it off?

I think everyone once goes totally insane then this mode first hits them out of the dark. stupid word

it only happens once every couple of years or something and it's a complete ball ache, i don't even really see the point in it, does anyone use it?

I thought it was a hardware thing not a software thing - PC keyboards that that fucking 'insert' button, above the delete button and next to the backspace button.

I sometimes end up hitting the 'insert' button instead of the backspace button - totally useless button, throwback to the DOS days I'm guessing.

Or maybe it's something else...

It's still used by VMWare and ESX where you press CTRL-ALT-INS in a session window instead of CTRL-ALT-DEL.

i very occasionally use it.. e.g. for changing a column of numbers in a text document.. where the things you're going to replace them with are the same width. it saves a few keypresses.

I could live without insert mode but I like the insert key.
