wind

Bloody hell, our whole building is shaking here. We've had to move our workspaces away from the windows as they sound like they are going to implode. There's slabs of plasterboard flying off the roof of the building site and the police are directing people away from here.

yeah, half of manchester is shut. i'm not looking forward to the journey home. a woman was seriously injured by some falling corrugated iron this morning. and to cap it all, we had a fire drill. and i didn't take my coat. 20 minutes stood there on st ann's square in a force 73 gale, freezing my nads off. and it was lunchtime. and we walked past will young on the way back into the office

and now a crane has fallen over near piccadilly and the windows caved in on one of the office buildings. safest thing is to hit the pub and wander home drunk through moss side/longsight/blackley in the early hours.

The new halls of residence built on the campus I work at got blown off today - good job they're not open yet, but they did fuck-up the car park.

The water was amazing though (the campus is right next to a dock) - was lashing the walkways!

Just a thought, but if building construction and maintenance in the UK was a little bit better some of these people might not have died:

Quote:
A two-year-old boy died when a wall fell on him in Kentish Town, London....

In Stockport, Greater Manchester, a woman in her 60s was crushed to death when a wall toppled onto her in high winds....

London Bridge station closed for the day after glass panels fell onto the concourse....

And maybe somebody should buy a SNOW PLOUGH...

Quote:
Central Scotland Police said several cars became stuck in snow on the A809 near Killearn....

edit- granted, most deaths were traffic-related, but maybe a little common sense would come in handy for drivers too: "70 mph winds, sounds bracing, think I'll go for a drive"....

wind is the one aspect of weather that i really dislike.... it makes everything so much more difficult... ie: biking uphill against the wind. fuck that shit.
