USB Audio/Midi Interface

I'm looking for advice/experience with USB audio/midi soundcards. I have an Emu 1616m (PCMCIA) that I have been using with my crap PC laptop, but am now running Windows on a Macbook and so need to get a USB audio card (Windows doesn't seem to see the Firewire port).

So looking to spend under £200 on a soundcard with audio and midi, hopefully that could replace the Emu 1616m, even though it is a totally superb soundcard, if I could get something that works as well in terms of audio quality and latency on USB I'd be well happy.

Anyone got any thoughts/experience on what to go for/avoid. Another basic question is do the ASIO drivers for these sorts of things work even when you are not using the interface?

Thanks

P

i've heard pretty good things about edirol interfaces - most of them are firewire but this is usb: http://www.rolandus.com/products/pro...3&ParentId=114

other cards here

shame that emu don't make mac drivers, i use a 1616 myself and it's a fantastic card for the price.

yeah, that Edirol one looks very nice - more than I wanted to spend, but if it was very good I'd pay that.

Emu do do a USB audio/midi card which is a nice price, but looks fairly limited in I/O... http://www.dv247.com/invt/35906/

It will certainly hurt to stop using my 1616m. I love the interface, it's so flexible. Still I haven't committed to anything yet, I'd just love to stop working on my PC laptop cos it's so NOISY.

i've got the firewire pendant to that edirol card, the fa-101. it's a good semi-pro card, i've never had any issues with it so the ua-101 should be fine.

how many ins/outs do you need? more than one each? if not go for a usb 1 card, they're really cheapish now.
