Melbourne, Australia
I'm starting to think about quitting Osaka and I'm kinda thinking about heading to Melbourne, hopefully for a little more student time.
Any views on Melbourne? I lived in Sydney for 4 years and don't fancy going back to that cultural wasteland. Melbourne seemed a lil more heartful. What do you reckon? hx ........................... hx |

I know a brit who just moved from Melbourne to Sydney cos he reckoned the weather in Melbourne was so like the UK that it seemed pointless him being on the other side of the world.
He is a twat though, so wouldn't appreciate the fact Melbourne is better culuturally.. |

twat though he may have been, hes sort of has a point. ask any australian about melbourne and they'll say "oh its great, its so european." That said, it is a kind of idealised European city, with a great city centre, an awesome library, loads of great bars, shops, cafes etc with decent weather and everyone speaks fairly decent english. mind you theres also a load of goths and cheap heroin and its spookily flat. the trams are nice.
melbourne people bitch endlessly about sydney but sydney acknowledges its shortcomings and recognises that melbourne is better culturally- in this much i always think about melbourne and sydney as sisters, with melbourne as the sultry moody brunette younger sister and sydney as the trashier, brasher blonde older sister. both are fun in their own way. |

Went there a couple of years ago and had a great time. Went to a good club which was open veryveryvery late and had 100's of chinese lanterns hanging from the ceiling. stayed in both syd. and melb. in the same holiday and enjoyed them both for different reasons. Some photo's (both cities): http://www.photosbyconrad.com/index....se&category=21

Why Australia, Ladytron? Coz, myself and my girl will get citizenship if we live there for 2 years. And its a pretty special country too. Amazing in many ways.
I do have a lil pull back to the UK and Europe, but we'll get our citizenship sorted before checking out the EU again. Besides, I just love moving countries! Hx ........................... hx |

I've spent most of my life in Melbourne, so my opinion would naturally contain a bit of bias - but since I'm here I do know a bit about the place
![]() There has always been a stack of great music in this city. There have been various strong underground "scenes" here over the years, which often have been very transitory unfortunately. Another unfortunate thing is that many talented people from here have had to move overseas in order to get any sort of recognition. If you are into experimental/avant garde music, now is a fantastic time to be in Melbourne. All sorts of amazing things have been happening in that area down here for the last few years - can't say the same for techno though I'm afraid (but seems Melbourne isn't alone there). Anyways, if anyone from nofuture is passing by this way, I'd be happy to hook up in some way: http://www.myspace.com/zenparadox |
