new internet music business models
A couple of interesting new music sites with very different business models to the ones we are used to.
Sellaband that relies on a shareholder model, aiming for $50,000 investment and then you get a crack at a studio session and some A&R work. All the investors get a percentage of any profit eventually made. http://www.sellaband.com/site/how-it-works.html and Amie Street, which is a download model, the pricing being based on demand, with 70% going to the artist. https://secure.amie.st/ |

if you watched dragons den last night you'd know a new one.
www.mixalbum.com where the software automatically creates mix albums for you with the tracks you choose |

seems to be down.
not really what I was thinking of though, I'm more interested in it from the artists perspective. the internet has obviously changed the way people can buy music, but these sites in particular are about selling your music and making money without having an existing record contract or established distribution method. |

that was so embarassing. the stupid little prick made the wrong decision anyway, he should have sold his super duper mix software and taken royalties, instead he chose to take on itunes and the like. he'll be gone in no time. |

sellaband is a total ripoff of artists. the contract is even worse than an actual contract with a major- that's pretty hard to achieve.
I recently read a long article about it, but it's only in german. In the end they won't get ........................... pew pew! |
