me too...
I use to read all kinds of cog psy on children.... I'm sorry that they didn't mention anything about music and mental development...that's always facinated me...but the info about how music triggers dopamine and seratonin levels was pretty cool to know.. and that talented musicians aren't any more special than the rest of us... I personally think it's a personality trait that one has and if nurtured at the right time and in the right way can make the talented musician.....but the statiscal ability for this to happen(that is the right nurturing at the right time) is so small that when it does happen, it's creates these rare prodigy type people......this is all speculation and has nothing to do w/ fact... but I'm super smart, so I'm sure it's all true... ![]() |

see, I don't agree with that. I mean nurturing certainly plays a part, but what kind of nurturing would one person receive that is different from another that would yield the result of a child producing symphonies by the time they are 5? |

I'm not saying nuture over nature...but rather nature(many personality traits have been found to be genetic) in conjunction w/ the right kind of nurture at the correct time... The human brain at birth can decipher the most undistinguishable sounds by adults...the capacity to do this of course lessens as the child grows up in which ever country and his ability to hear and understand differing sounds becomes fine tuned to ones own language......this has a lot to do w/ the neuron pathways clsing for those areas because of lack of use... so I think that it's a conjunction of both...nature and nuture that creates the prodigies...what was the environment of the child who composed the symphony at 5. Someone at some point had to show him notes and give him exposure to music....etc..etc...the fact that he could grasp it all w/ such complexity can be explained by the genetics of the child....IMO... ![]() |

genetics is bullshit.
its all bout making connections in the brain throughout childhood. pruning and connecting important pathways through experience. |

partially true...but to completely erase genetics is a big mistake....personality traits play a big part of who we are....and the studies show that's hardwired in at birth.....good example would be the father who is really good at math, but works as a janitor and his son becomes a mathmatician....both are good at math due to genetic disposition, but one is pruned by his family and given the experience needed to allow the son's abilities to good use.. or you have the father who is a mathmatician and his son becomes janitor.....why?...the son has the disposition for math...his grades all show this aptitude for math, but he's also inherited the dispositon of his mother who enjoys working w/ her hands...and neither parent took the time to nurture the son's aptitude for math.... ask any mathmatician if they believe whether or not anyone can understand the complexities or if there are some people who just "naturally" get it easier than others....this ability to "naturally" get it EASIER than the next guy is what I'm refering to as genetics(personality traits...)..but just because this person can naturally get it easier doesn't make them the super star mathlete... it's the pruning that you speak of...the experience...that makes him either the super start mathlete or just the next regular joe who has the predisposition to be great math.... to see music in small components of balanced talents,,,
that was very interesting. so it is not just 1 + 1=2 it can be 1x1=1 1/1=1 or, (1/1x1)*1-1+1=1 it's all balanced out. {1024*108+124-4+501/5(670)}X0=0 I'm begining to think that ppl may have some desire to "death". Maybe we see(feel/hear) the ultra-fact of nothingness and ultimate balance in music. And that we are part of it. Mr.Logic Pro7 discovered Mr.Live6 from Ableton. They both had some common things to share with, and some not. But deep down, they both knew same 0&1s were floating within them. A music was filling the air. |
