I'm downloading the first series now, because of the same reason.

and it's got Idris Alba in it.

it's excellent, i've seen all three series so far. heavily involved fast moving storylines, great dialogue, great characters, different scenario each series. i think deadwood is better, but deadwood is a fucking masterpiece way out on it's own imho. not to take anything away from the wire mind you, it's easily the next best thing on tv. gives you a pretty accurate picture of baltimore too by all accounts.

best character: omar the gay gangster who constantly rips off the drug dealers, he's fucking top class!

deadwoods a slow burner. its all about the charactarisation and the language, rather than a rapid plot, that makes it brilliant. takes a while to kick in because of that.

I really got into deadwood by the third episode. It started out a bit weird because a lot of the first episode didn't make a whole pile of sense until episode 2 or 3.

It is hard to believe ian mc'shane could play such a deadly character, but he does! But how is everyone d/l these things. I have a pile of stuff queued on bittorrent, including the wire, and it takes weeks. There must be something better?

yeah, it's quite subtle and presumes the viewer has a functioning brain - you have to piece things together yourself quite a bit. it's just really intelligent drama, which is quite refreshing even alongside the other hbo shows.

it shouldn't take weeks...? if you have azureus or utorrent or any decent client you can set the priority for individual episodes (that is if you're getting an entire series at once in one big folder), so you get the earlier episodes first and watch them as you go along, unless that's what you're doing an you just have a ropey connection?

no, no, you have to enjoy yourself too. let's have a big row where one side insists everyone watch AND enjoy deadwood and the other side goes off on some mad tangent about how ian mcshane peaked in the second series of lovejoy.

Might need a better client, but I think my connection is a bit ropey, partly because of my own wifi and also using a laptop that other people don't keep plugged in (Grrrr!).

have you not seen Sexy Beast? He plays the most menacing of characters in that, and is perfect.

Also, pm me your email address

he was the big daddy gangster, the mastermind behind the whole op, Teddy Bass "Mr Black Magic Himself". He had the quiet menacing thing going on really well.

hmm weird, things should be fast. your ports being forwarded ok? plus a lot of isps block the default port, so choose a random high one as well

definitely something amiss, I remember it used to be fast with wanadoo. I'm switching provider next month anyway. I'll try a random high port and maybe switch client program.

azereus has a built in NAT check light, so that you know your uploads are getting registered and the ports are fine, and thats whats needed to bump up the speed. id give that a go just to see.

Thanks yer_maw, I've had a proper look into this now and the problem is due to having 2 routers, (external ethernet DSL modem/router and wifi ap/router). I can't really fix it easily with the current hardware as the modem/router isn't configurable. Getting a new modem next month, so that should sort it.

BTW, watched the first 3 episodes of the wire and it is very good, draws you right in.
