isolation tanks

anybody here got any experience of isolation tanks? i did it last year-buy 2 get 1 free. 1st 2 were relaxing then in the 3rd i totally tripped out. ive been reading 'the deep self' by john c lilly, who invented it and did it all the time, sometimes on pure acid, as well documenting other peoples experiences. i want to do it again, but its pretty pricey

The First time I really enjoyed it but towards the end I got back ache.. which is quite common, second time was fantastic.

They weren't absolute sensory deprivation maybe 90%, if you opened your eyes you could make out the inside of the tank. I did at one point hear another customer outside in the corridor outside too..

You need to find a place in the wilderness with just one tank

did it once (@ the london bridge centre) , it was okay apart from the salt water vapour starting to sting my eyes after about 40 minutes.

Felt a bit more relaxed immediately after the session, but way more relaxed the next day. The tanks would probably work well with meditation or acid.

im in glasgow. the tank was like a cupboard and it was totally dark inside. there was the occassional muffled sound but i dont theres much can be done about that.
they recommend you do a few in a row to get most effect, and i did them in the space of a week. the 3rd time was great-totally out of it! i thought i was away somewhere talking to bill hicks

Went to one in Brixton years ago. Couldn't properly get the hang of it. If you don't stay still bits of you touch the side/bottom of the tank and you don't feel isolated at all. Also, because it's a salt mixture/solution, if you have any cuts etc, it stings like fuck. Ouch.

However once you've mastered that it's OK. It must have worked to some extent 'cos when I walked out onto the street I was well spaced out and dreamy. I could have got mugged or anything.

From what I've read he seems a little too gullible/naive:

"During a session in an isolation tank, constructed over a pool where dolphins were swimming, I participated in a conversation between the dolphins. It drove me crazy, there was too much information, they communicated so fast,'' Lilly wrote of one such experience.

Shut up, you were tripping, you tit.

people used to tie themselves up into a big sack and suspend themselves from a tree in the wilderness. never tried it.

did the tanks people use have proper filtration, as proper ones should be able to extract your piss and shit so you can totally let go and not be bothered with bodily functions.....

Don't think my tank had filtration, but I let go anyway. Seemed the right thing to do at the time.

i've never been in one, but read a lot about them years ago, and always liked the idea of being total out there to be so disconnected with the body that any worry of shitting and pissing would just leave my mind.

when i did dmt for the first time, and "came back" i thought i had lost full bodily control, luckily i hadn't as i was lying on my friends bed....

it did feel like that, the water being pretty much the same temperature as the air in there really made you lose all sense of your body.. but like someone already said.. if you're not completely still you tend to drift into the side which knocks you out of it a little.

aye the last time i did it, i was pushing myself from end-to-end because it was fun. at 1 point the tip of my finger touched the top end and i realised if i just took my finger off i would be floating totally still. the very instant i did that it felt as if my brain just spun off and i was completely gone. every now & again i'd come back, but only for a few seconds then i was gone again. cant really remember what happened though
