Basement Jaxx have gone crackerdog

Just got the promo of their new album, and there's a song called 'Hey U' which appears to be a whole Brazilian carnival having a fight at a Gypsy wedding in Brixton with Green Velvet on the decks. I don't think I've heard a dance record that over the top with different elements piled on since the KLF 'What Time Is Love America'

TRUFACT - Felix from Basement Jaxx and Tim Westwood were in a band in the early '80's called 'Tha Vicarz Boyz', they had a number 56 album called 'Fucking in the Belfry'.

Production was by Jonathon King

yeah, that's the only thing of theirs i like really. i'm not into their unique brand of big-beat/student-house at all, wacky and fun though it may be.

music journalism...very easy to knock. but actually quite hard. how can you describe music in words without saying 'x sounds like y + z ' ?

i guess you can say 'i liked it. it was good' but that doesn't tell the reader wot it sounds like.

I want strictly frequency domain reviews, concentrating on 2nd and 3rd Harmonic interplay.

I've heard a really good acid one by them, I can't remember what it was called now though.

i'm quite curious about that new album since i saw them live a few weeks ago for just 10€ (and a somewhat boring pop singer called robbie williams playing after them), really good performance though the crowd was absolutely dull. sounds promising to me, knid

Probably 'It's Tha Raw Shit' on the b-side of an EP... possibly 'Summer Breeze', something like that?

Doh didn't read to the bottom. Urban Haze, that was the one. There's two wobblers on there I think.

It was intended as a joke you know... although it was an accurate description too. Balkan Bangers are the new Retro Techno is the new Punk-Funk-Crunk dontcha know?

Zackly - don't write them off as student / big beat til you've seen the live show, and the proper party atmosphere they create, espec if like last time I saw them they insist on playing small venues (Brixton Fridge)... Otherwise I just see them as a great pop singles band - Romeo, Good Luck, Oh My Gosh etc - these are not student disco records but the sort of thing you're just as likely to hear on your mum-friendly local radio station or a south london pirate...

oh, damn it. the trouble with your use of that tired old reviewers' cliche there is you can actually imagine what the track really sounds like by reading it.
