The Mars Volta
Never heard them before, they were the first band on that film about the Coachella festival on C4 last night.
Only one song, but it sounded really good. Any fans or haters here? Coachella looked quite good too - didn't Jamie perform their this year? |

Heard the hype, got excited, heard the music, felt let down. Same goes for Secret Machines and Comets on Fire. The word prog is sadly a sign that it's gonna be lame- Yes, anyone?
 If krautrocky/droney shit floats your boat then try- Acid Mothers Temple and The Melting Paraiso UFO, Circle, Rätto ja Lehtisalo, White Hills, any of the Julian Cope side project stuff (esp. the Rite series), Thighpaulsandra Probably barking up the wrong tree here, but this is all stuff that deserves a listen... |

Comets on Fire are good. Mars Volta used to be in at the drive in. it is very prog but it isn't bad. they dont try and hide it. lots of energy live. |

volta and drive in don't record very rewarding music, their material is overfull of lyrics, licks and production that are simply not very cool .

prog is such a misused werd in every genre'...
I thought at the drive in were just a bland imitation of fugazi. but hey i don't hate them, there is a lotta music out there that shits me way more. |
