a way to convert brightness to control data
.. I'm looking for a way of reading the brightness of a quicktime movie , perhaps every 0.5 seconds, and generating a MIDI or other control data stream from this in realtime, or rendered... anyone think of a way of doing that?

Very simple with Max/MSP and the Jitter matrix objects. They both have 30 day trials if you don't already use them.

...and PD too no doubt, the reason I instantly thought of max is that this is basically what the early Jitter tutorials cover.

There's sommat called GEM in PD which i've used successfully on Windows and OSX. Getting PD/GEM installed on OSX involved hunting around to find someone who'd compiled the latest versions and made a nice .dmg of it.. otherwise you end up writing stuff according to the docs and then wondering why it doesn't work.. (because the standard OSX distribution seems to be pretty old)

Ooh that's interesting, could you find out what the plugin was called? I could imagine using that for sound for image work. |
