Anybody ever Negotiate a deal with Tresor Records?

Just curious if anybody has any experience with this label?

I've been in a musical hiatus for the last .. umm. . 4 years now, but with the summer dawning I've decided to cut out a new demo of some select trax. Tresor is on the list of places to mail things out to, but - seeing as they had all that financial trouble not long ago with their club - I'm not sure what the current politics are regarding "unknown" talent and their reception to it. In all honesty, I haven't even *heard* a tresor record (or lived in a city that made them easily acquirable) since Busca Invisibles came out. Are they pretty solid and dependable, or do they jerk you around due to fashionable drug habits (etc)? I know next to nothing about the people that actually run Tresor, so I guess that's what this post is all about.

In the past I'm aware that they were very open, but has that changed at all? Any chance they would be receptive to some abstract fast beats, or are they still all about the four-to-the-floor tech?

taken from the tresorberlin myspace account:

for demos:
if you have solid self-produced tracks that you think we should give a listen, post them (CDR format) with your artist bio to this address:

Tresor Records
P.O. Box 36 04 28
D-10999 Berlin
Germany

"Negotiate a deal"?

You mean you want to send them a demo?

Humm.. Ok. I'm not really looking for any backdoor help with my demo's reception, but rather a wider perspective on what "Tresor" actually represents these days. With Mosquito, for example, I got to know Emma and Cristian a bit and found them pretty level headed, like minded people, intellectually curious people. I'd rather avoid Tresor if they're into ego games, or have given up the underground aesthetic. I'm not really imagining them riding around in limos, doing coke off strippers breasts and wearing diamond studs on their clothing.. but you never know.

Yes - I want to send them a demo.

But "negotiate a deal" is in reference to you (well, my audience at large). "Negotiate" is intended to imply "have you ever talked with the people behind the scenes" and if somebody gave me a positive reply then next on plate would be "what are they like?"

Don't worry, I clearly see a distinction between negotiating deals and sending demos. Since I'm based in america, however, I've never had the slightest chance to know or understand the people behind this ubiquitous label. In fact, even still I have zero clue whether it's run by one person or many.. a guy or girl, black or white, communist or anarchosyndicalist. I guess, since it's my favorite "vintage" techno label, I'm curious about the deeper nature of this entity which has happily existed in my crates since the mid 90s.

I wouldn't worry about it. Just send your demo to any labels you think might like it first. If they like it you can engage with them and see what you make of them.

Ok, then don't worry about it.

I've sent to labels before, I know the drill. I'm not new to any of this.

However - since this forum, for multiple reasons, hosts people that could easily travel to club Tresor and/ or have had relationships with them in the past, it dawned on me that a quick post on this forum might net me some insight into something I otherwise wouldn't have gotten.

Isn't this exactly what discussion forums are for?

Incidentally, "Worry" is projection on your part. "Curiosity" does not always equal "worry". Hell, I've been aware of Tresor's existence for over 12 years now and have only just gotten the motivation to inquire. It's not a big issue for me, but if somebody here can fill in my blanks than why not ask the questions, eh?

i sent them a right load of bollocks a few years back and they were kind enough to send me a polite email saying it was interesting but their schedule was booked for the next 3 years.

just send a demo and see what happens. situation is very weak these days, so don't make yourself too much illusions. tresor gets a hundred demos every week. but give it a try. you never know.

and yeah, tresor are good people and are taking good care of their artists, or lets say they do the best they can (its only a bunch of people who have to worry about label, club, merch, booking, etc.).

send your demo to the adress aleks mentioned above or contact max@tresorberlin.com

good luck!

Tresor are great folks, who are really committed to the Music. Dimitri who runs the whole show is a business man, but he loves music. The label has been transitioning for a while - with the club closing, and experiments with putting out CDs vs Vinyl since 2003. Great folks - they almost has a Bob Brown release when Marc Snow was working there, but they soon came to their sences.
