question about winamp.
weird question about winamp here.
does anyone know why when I play a burned cd in winamp it won't display the name of the song or artist, even though I have added said info into the file properties and named the file accordingly? |

Probably because despite there being a format which would allow normal CD's to display track title and artist (CD-Text) from data written in the header... it was an extension to the original red-book standard and barely any manufacturer bothered to implement it into players.
I can't believe I bothered to retain that information in my brain. |

yeah it can if it's a straight cdda copy.. but if winamp is creating the cd-text data from mp3 tags then it maybe relies on the physical drive. |

How does iTunes/Gracenote CDDB identify CDs then? Is it a time identifier thing or what?

I used to be a foobar head, but musikcube won me over with its awesome implementation of sqlite. dynamic playlists ahoy.

winamp can go online and retrieve album info, but what I was doing was making a little compliation of tunes for a friend. so I imported the tracks off the cd and then entered in the info into the wav header, but it didn't show up. I haven't tried it in itunes as my mac HD has failed.
I am thinking steev is on to something with the redbook standards. no worries though, I was just curious. thanks. |

i use foobar - i don't like players that try to predict my listening habits or make my life easier somehow. i'll listen to what i choose when i want, i'm still into albums mostly anyway.
