John Acquaviva is using this as well. You have the possibility to use a bigger spread of records. I think 2000 with a normal harddisk.
Normally you cannot put this much in record cases. ![]() Infos under: http://www.finalscratch.com. Last edited by Tomoki : 20th March 2002 at 08:40. |

Yeah,
i saw the final scratch running. It's damn good but too much expensive. I like it because you can easily mix your own production and i like the large quantity of music that you can store in it. |

saw aquaviva using it once....but IMO it sucks..it can never replace the good old vinyl.
the only advantage is that you can store many tracks on it. but what the hell you are going to do if it break down while you are playing ??? save the vinyl |

i reckon it would be great for playing with samples, your own stuff etc....but i wouldn't fancy recording 2000 records to hard disk

Obviously, I was thinking of bringing records as well (apparently, you just have to switch between 'line' and 'phono' on the mixer to change mediums), but this seems like a GREAT tool for advancing djing possibilities! You can bring out fresh material you've worked on that day and play just as you would a record....or you can take a currently owned track and cut it up into parts, maybe adding effects to it and then re-work it on the fly....or even just use it to play all those tracks you own on mp3, but not on vinyl yet.
I've already heard things about labels agreeing to set up some sort of agreement for selling their tracks as mp3's to finalscratch or some distribution company. This would be hella cheaper for them than pressing and distruibuting vinyl...Anyone heard any rumours about that one? @m. |

I think the premise is kinda cool, but I am not really
psyched to hear all these mp3s at clubs. with the advent of the mp3 audio on the web has grown leaps and bounds, but I don't think it should be a standard. I mean the sound quality is not that good. mp3s are great for getting music over the web since that is what they were designed for but in the end I think quality will be sacrificed if this final scratch dilly becomes commonplace. |

True - but the advantage is that now the technology exists, it can hopefully be upgradeable to a better file format....perhaps ogg vorbis?

Shure MP3 sounds bad but "final scratch" works with wave files and Mac sound files. Shure vinyl format is and will be the best format to mix. I think that final scratch should be used as a complement to decks and not alone. We can do amazing tricks by using it like Hawtin does (not acquaviva, even with computer he is bad). So let Final scratch have it's chance.

yes I totally agree. the promise for greatness is there.
and hopefully in a bit with someone like hawtin pushing it some great things may trully arise from it. I just hope that it doesn't seperate too many people and create a trap of "pure djs" and "final scratch djs". |
