best mobile handset for mp3s and stuff?

Right, ive got to sort out a new phone contract...

After making the *wrong* choice last time on the handset (please, take my advice and dont get one of the hi-tech corp handsets - badged as spv and the like) i thought id ask some advice here.

I only need 3 things -

*Excelent battery life
*Has to sync to outlook (i cant run the risk of having all my numbers in one place)
*Easy to use (ie usable, rather than having to mess with a whole stack of menues just to change album / volume etc) mp3 player.

Oh, and i really want it to stay working for more than 4 months at a time.

Any suggestions?

Oh, and if im wrong on the £26.25 900 min anytime deal from t-mobile (cheers Tec) being the best, could you shout on that too?

the new sony erection walkman phones look good, expandable to 4gb and symbian OS touch sensitive screen ones coming out soon.

I want something that is a decent PDA and a decent MP3 player with bags of storage. oh... and a phone.

something along the lines of this preferably:

im happier with my paper notebook - at least then i can write stuff down *whilst* im on the phone, even if it is low tech ; )

supposedly with this spv, i can open up a VNC connection to this machine and do whatever i like, not that i ever got it working right before most of the buttons started breaking on the handset for the 2nd time arround

i had an old nokia for litterally years on pay as you go, and it didnt break..

- i guess after my poor experiance last time arround, im more interested in usability and reliability than features....

any chance they get, they'll root you. scary.

nokia's tend to be good. but I think the new ones are a bit ropey. apple are rumoured to be bringing out a music phone. that might be worth waiting for.

the N91 is much clunkier than it looks in pictures. It's also horribly expensive for what it is.

I'd recommend one of the Sony Ericsson walkman phones. Maybe the W800i. Nice solid build and they have an mp3 mode where the phone part is de-activated so you can save battery power.

i hadn't actually properly looked at the sony's untill now the W900i looks sweet actually - http://www.sonyericsson.com/walkmanp...=pp1&pid=10333 - 2gig storage. gotta be the white one too.

i guess i'll decide when my contract runs out after i nipped down the shop, cos your right size is important when i comes to phones in'it...

i just noticed the n91 and the sony w900 are the same size pretty much anyhow-

Nokia - Dimensions
Weight: 164 g
Length: 113.1 mm
Width (max): 55.2 mm
Thickness (max): 22 mm

sony dimensions
109 x 24 x 49 mm
4.3 x .9 x 1.9 inches

Weight
148 g
5.2 oz

i'm gonna stop looking at phones now cos this is a bit sad.

fuuuuuccckkkk you made me look again, where'd you read that?

sony site - http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?...=pp1&pid=10245 says 1gig. besides i can't have phones with acess to the number on the front, i diverted all my calls by accident to an acquaintance when my phone was in my pocket once and i was off my head for a couple of days - my mother harrased the poor bastard for hours quizzing him on why he had my phone, so i swore never again.

edit - this was the last of many a fuck up resulting in me not locking my phone when i was off my head btw.

Well the N91 feature set is tough to beat today, but otoh it's not out yet either

I'm pretty happy with my Palm Treo 650, which handles regular SD cards, which go up to 4 GB. There are a variety of multimedia apps for the palm os, including divx players. For mp3s I use pockettunes - you can combine the treo with a stereo bluetooth headset these days, if you're so inclined.

That being said, I'll prolly switch to the nokia n80 when it comes out - I don't think that I need a 4gb integrated microdrive (I also own an ipod), and it will also feature wlan (plus include a 3 mp camera - I've started using flickr with my treo)

Can anyone see any advantage of the W810i over the W800i?

To me, they look to be the same phone, except that the 810 has very slightly nicer interface (real control buttons, rather than a joystick thing), and slightly lower batery life (8hrs as opposed to 9hrs)

Its just on the cusp of being released here (has been on some networks)

Its a latter phone, so id assume its improved, but i just cant see the bonus?

think its just edge and quadband, plus some buttons.

Hmm.... Like i can work out what EDGE is : /

Its just an improved (over the phone network) data protocol, right?
Nothing fancy (like WLAN)?

In which case, its probably useless to me.

Quad band? That make any real difference, unless your abroad?

Im sorry to be such a pain. I learnt years ago that sales people generally (although there are exceptions) dont actually know anything much about what theyre selling.

I've got a prototype of the W810i atm. the differences from the W800i are that it supports EDGE + an extra GSM band. bizarrely, the W810i comes with less memory as well.
