speaking of tape delay...
![]() on the 1st disc of miles' complete jack johnson there is a track done with sonny sharrock (aka the guy that did the space ghost theme, aka one of the better free jazz guitarists) where he uses an echoplex i believe. he was only on this one session w/ miles and didnt even make the recording but it is still pretty good. i think i may buy an echoplex now Last edited by content : 21st March 2006 at 17:09. |

Its also very good, there are a number of variables to a good tape echo I guess its what do you want to use it for that will determine the result |

Just out of interest, have any of you tried the line 6 Echo pod, It models a lot of these old boxes, I've had mine for years and swear it's the Coolest thing I own, I've used space echo's before as well but in all honesty - I prefer the modelling to the actual - weird but true, anyway - tis a beast and very reliable, I guess If I had the money and the space - I'd love one of the originals tho.

In regards to CV in's on delays..
I got a VestaKaza Delay.. it's mad. It has CV & Gate in. You can use the gate to get accurate delay times, or really weird ones if you give it odd timing triggers. You can use the CV to pitch the echos so to speak.. I have heard nothing like that.. putting in say 5th intervals on the delay pitch makes for some really cool results. boards of canada eat your heart out. You can also freeze the delay, and use it as a real primative sampler. With CV and gate control. MAD If you see another one, buy it and then sell it to me. It's in my 'A' list of gear, which for me, speaks volumes. Another Delay which I've used and loved and want real bad is a Lexicon PCM48 (Or 41, can't remember right now) I'm pretty sure that has got CV in too. I've seen pics of brian eno playing with one in some (uggghhhh..... U2...) clip. Have Lexicon Prime Time's got CV in, anyone know? |

I wrote Dockstader and asked him how he did the first sound on travelling music. It was done by bangin a metal bowl at the same time he started the tape machine. The tape took time to speed up. Thats what gave it that glissando sound.

I had no idea you could get such variation in sound from messing with tape.

there's a fantastic documentary about the bbc radiophonic workshop that you should check out called 'the alchemists of sound' http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcfour/music/f...chemists.shtml they did everything with tape, it's totally mindblowing. it should be on a bittorrent tracker somewhere. i'd highly recommend it, inspirational stuff! |
