http://www.ableton.com/index.php?mai...el_mac_support
Ableton is pleased to announce Live 5.2, bringing native support for Apple's new Intel-Macs. One of Ableton's major development goals for 2006 is to deliver faster audio performance to Live users. On the Mac side, this goal coincides nicely with the announcement of the new Intel-based Macs. The upcoming Live 5.2 is the first step in providing Live users support for the Intel-Mac platform and significant gains in audio performance. Live 5.2 is currently in beta and is expected to be released in early March. Thanks to Live 5.2, early MacBook Pro buyers will be able to run Live immediately and enjoy substantially higher audio performance than on today's fastest Mac notebook. |

well, i can give you some of my personal benchmarks, i've got the same ableton session open on my new 2ghz macbook with 2gigs of ram and my old G4 800 Mhz with 1 gig of ram.
when playing tracks the G4 says 7-% the the intel says 28% or another example would be that my G4 can open 4 ableton reverb plugins before the CPU starts to crackle, where this intel has opened 20 of the some plugin so far and still isn't maxing out. woohoo, now i need to make some music. wish m-audio woudl get off their asses and get the midi drivers written for my midisport. |

yeah, sorry, the G4 was using 28% and the intel was at 7%.
i got the macbook from work. played a gig with it friday (yes i must be insane to play a gig with a computer i've had for 36 hours using a beta version of ableton, but) it worked fantasticly. |

there are performance tests online for ableton, if yur other apps aren't universal binary though then you might wait a bit. but if the choice is between a G4 powerbook or a macbook i'd go for the macbook again in a minute.

I recently bought a Sony Vaio laptop for business with a similar spec to the 1.83 GHz MacBook Pro (the Sony has a slower disk in it).
Just to see what would happen I put ProTools and Live 5 on it (under Windows XP) and it absolutely killed my G4 1.25GHz Dual Proc Mac. I’d love to see how it runs on the MacBook Pro under OS X. |

There was a thread recently on the NM list.. the G1 editor works fine apparently so I'd be surprised if the G2 doesn't. |

The G2 maynot because it uses a USB driver and I did read somewhere that USB could be a problem.
