i'm also amazed at how an imagination as limited as R's can produce something like that. like, the most fucked-up situations he can conceive of are a gay pastor and a fat woman with an unconvincing accent having an affair with a man of restricted growth, and yet the sum of all the parts has got to be the weirdest fucking thing i've ever seen in mainstream entertainment

I think the first series is much better, as it seems to be done so earnestly. I think for the second series, he realised that it was so ridiculous, and people were laughing at it, so just ramped up the humour and bizarreness, and it simply doesn't work as well

i've never made it through the second one. he clearly didn't believe in it anymore. it lacked the emotional resonance of part 1
