TITANIUM: RME or MOTU

Just got one of these Grey classy too expensive machines. So after a steep research
into the soundcard scape, it seems to leave 2 of them for me: RME multiface with the
PCMCIA card, and the Firewire MOTUS 828 and 896 or something (the 96KHZ one).
I would like to get feedback about them with mac machines.
I am also concerned about the fragility of the connection between RME PC card and the cable to hardware interface..So that applies to PC users as well i guess.
I plan to MOVE these babies about town, you understand...

Searched about on the net and found this:

Quote:
PowerBook G4 and Hammerfall DSP PCMCIA Digital Audio card:

" I thought I should let anyone know who doesn't about the Hammerfall DSP, a PCMCIA Digital Audio card, and its performance with the TiPB as listed by the companies own site, www.rme-audio.com. This card represents a breakthrough in what kind of quality a mobile multitracking (26 I/O) studio can have and what size it can be with absolutely no consessions in either.
The company, which if you have heard of Steinberg's Nuendo-RME manufactures all of their hardware exept the obvious Apoggee stuff, posted performance notes with many different PC Laptops and the Tibook (attatched). RME was always mainly a PC centered German company, kind of like Steinberg, whose product works equally well for the Mac.

I thought it funny that their benchmarks placed the Tibook above all PC laptops, achieving the best latency than the rest. They advertize a latency (extremely important especially for playing software instruments and monitoring and headphone mixes) of 1.5 ms. Actually, the Tibook is the only one to acheive this without dropouts or other problems. Others acheive a respectable 3ms and some are even as low as 23 ms.
Thanks to the TiPB, we can carry around a very small rack and the laptop and have quality multitracking that meets or beats all DAW offerings on the market... for desktops.
Yeah! , Chandler"

Btw- how much do those RME boxes sell for? I know the adapters are about $135 USD.

how's ya doin'?

true, RME rules, but Motu no less and the 828 has been recommended to me by several Mac people. Are you running an RME card?

Format - The 828 doesn't do midi, only audio. That is what the RME has over it.

well, but the motu has mic preamps....

and on the TiBook, please beware of the RME because midi doesn't work! Leads to dropouts, according to official statements from RME
At least on certain models - but could well affect the new ones too.

Thanks people for the feedback. The midi port is not an option for me, as i need
a multiport interface. Hope there is no conflict when you deactivate the RME midi...
Users , keep on helping me out !
