ESX audio in question

hello all,

whenver i put something through 'audio in' (not using audio in thru) on my ESX i get a click when the sound is triggered.

Is this standard or is there a work around? I've tried mucking around with amunt of triggers, eg time, etc.

thanks content (funnily enuff i'm using dan's esx!)

i've basically done that and it works ok, but you still get a pop at the beginning... don't think this will sound too good over a PA.

last week i used mine in the pest show for the first time- just triggering samples through the fx.. fine.. then i wanted to run my nord through the fx without using the sequencer, just like a standalone fx box.. but, as i discovered, it is impossible for the gate to stay open continuously unless one were to TAPE DOWN the goddam 'audio in' button!

arse.

I have been playing with mine. And my ESX (ho ho)

But, I have worked out that if you set a 4 bar loop, and set the audio in gate time to maximum, and trigger it from the first beat, it stays open, and as the pattern loops, no click when it retriggers!

Is this what people are trying to do?

yer loz - that's what i was doing, but always had a pop/click at the beginning - this was trying to use a nord micro playing a little mini-tune though (drums/bass/acid) so maybe there was something in the freqs that was not going down well?.. should try with come vocals or something.

whole thing is a bit puzzling really. fortunately i've got a laptop with a soundcard that I can use as a mini-mixer now, so can avoid having to feed nord thru ESX-1

Yeah, I think that if the sound is of a certain makeup, there's always going to be a click on pattern reset. But I think you may be able minimize it by eq-ing or filtering the nord's signal pre-esx.

Then again, if you don't care about using the Korg's fx, and have an alternative mixer, I would just go with that.

Glad you're still into the esx - I fell in an out of love with it all the time. There's a cool effect that I miss on it actually - the vocal filter effect (or something like that); the rhodes sounds great through it, even with (perhaps especially with) the 'click' on pattern reset.

If you go to Korg's US site (the UK site is horribly out of date, I really don't know why) you can pick up Firmware 1.02.

One of the listed fixes is:

[Bug Fix]
In a situation where you were Gating the Audio In, the gating produced unwanted noise. This has now been fixed.

Not had a chance to test this yet, but could provide the solution required.
