not sure if jerome really invented the meme, me and my mates called it wonky long ago, it's the obvious name for it. maybe tho.

Aparrently, Jerome Hill was a Minnesotan-born film maker and artist. He died in November 1972.

His most famous work was Film Portrait, an autobiographical piece about the artist's own life, which won numerous awards and is one of only 400 pieces of film stored in the National Film Registry in the Library of Congress.
So you're playing from beyond the dead jerome, and you died before you were even born...
this is what bugs me about not so much wikipedia but things like that such as discogs, where you get a general public, who think they know whats what editing content that they don't actually have a clue about, and, speaking from experience it's really annoying to read stuff online about yourself that simply isn't true.. another case of the infinite amount of monkeys.....

that's very true, and you're right, I shouldn't get annoyed, but it's like when they spelled your name wrong on a plane ticket, do you know what I mean?

and the thing I really hate about the "wonky techno" term is perfectly illustrated in the si begg entry, since when was he simply a "Wonky Techno" DJ? he's a breaks DJ, a techno DJ and much more surely.... these terms make it too easy to put people into nice little boxes... apologies for being a moaning git BTW

I think we'd have to search the archives of No Future with a fine tooth comb to check when it was originated - I'm sure "wonky" and/or "wonk-wonk" date back to the days of the blue board. I think it's like "hip hop" though, it probably occurred in many permutations from many sources, with people going "yeah it's definitely wonk" etc until one particular version stuck.

hmm, its always a source of sheepishness when people bring this up.. for the record (no pun intended) all i did was name a section in the shop for the aforementioned 'non-conformist' techno music.. it kind of stuck, which is great in terms of people giving clues to what they want in a record shop but obviously shit in the bigger picture of labelling/packing music up into little boxes....
and it sounds like wank.
I'd never heard the term before and thats not to say that it wasn't used. If i am to blame then i apologise to all the producers who feel they have been unfairly lumbered with an unshakeable tag, when in reality what they make is so much more than 'wonky' techno. Life is full of hardships and trauma and i hope you can battle bravely and fight to overcome this heartbreaking affliction.
oh yeah... stop complaining and get in the studio

spazzy doesn't work for me either.

I actually hated the term wonky at first. still do a bit.

techno (in my eyes) was supposed to be the forward thinking futuristic electronic music. "wonky" techno is to me that music so I always justc alled it techno...unfortunately over here in Toronto area no one else seems to know the stuff so when I say techno and they say techno we're not really talking about the same things.

irritating.

annoying.

I don't know why it bothers me.

I'm anal perhaps.

nit picking?

definitely get more worked up than I should. ok you're right I'll let it go.

thanks!

I think for me the wonky stuff was what I liked after Detroit started to get just a bit samey and boring.. to me 'Techno' just means Detroit Techno... I'm not saying that's the same for everyone.. but if you're super-critical like I am... you just can't help trying to categorise what you like...
