I reckon it looks pretty damn amazing...
when you sit back and think of the ways it could be used it's pretty clever.

Lots of people are saying it looks like a gimmick...

here's some other Nintendo gimmicks of years gone by...

The D-Pad
Analogue control sticks
mixing analogue and digital on the same controller
rumbling controllers

All of which are now in use by their competitors. Someone has to innovate and as usual it's Nintendo, while Sony and Microsoft are busy rendering light shining out of game character's earholes - it shows which one of the three is actually a games company...

Oh yeah, dunno if the BBC site had a video link - it's worth checking the video, undoubtedly all fake (ie actors pretending they are using the controller), but it shows lots of potential, providing they deliver it...

Nintendo always make the most fun games and always inovate, I'm more interested in this Nintendo than the PS3 or Xbox 360, those will just churn out the same unplayable games just with better graphics.

Playstations are for 17 year olds who aspire to spend all day wanking off to pictures of Gillian Anderson anyway.

Sorry Si, but i completely disagree. I respect Nintendo, but i'm an adult (most of the time anyway) and want to play games with a more mature content

Nintendo is very comic book in its approach probably 90% of the time. Its aimed at the 8-16 market (just look at the type of games available), Playstation is more 14-65 and the games reflect that.

Anyway, nintendo hasn't got Grand Theft...

Sorry, but imo thats an crazy comment mate, GTA SA is a feat of gaming advancement. No shit. Its absolutely huge, bigger than anything else. No one game that a player plays would ever be identically the same. The engine is incredible too.

Each to their own i guess.

What's advanced about GTA?

Off-the-shelf renderware graphics and gameplay that we saw back on the C64. I agree the games are compelling - that's largely the subject matter of the game - the game itself is good, but nothing new or innovative.

I mean don't get me wrong, GTA is well executed and that in itself is an innovation in an industry largely run and populated by industry big-wigs whose only qualification is that they coded up a few speccy and c64 games in 80s...

I know what your saying, I just can't be arsed with computer games anymore anyway.

Probably cos I spend so much time doing other things. I've got a PS2, but have probably only ever played on it 5 times in the 4 years I've had it.
Hence why I'd be more willing to give the nintendo a go in my regressive computer game state than one of those wankey "student" machines 360 PS3.

To me it always seems that Nintendo games tend to have a very wide appeal... Mario Sunshine's great for kids or adults. Whereas a lot of games on PS2 and Xbox are all about blood and tits and fast cars. Personally I see games like that as being aimed at teenage boys.. not adults.

Nintendo games are the ones I've enjoyed most in recent years... they remind me more of oldskool games.. where it's all about controls and gameplay rather than gfx. Tho I do like Ninja Gaiden on Xbox

The revolution controller looks great. Xbox and PlayStation have been heading down the same narrow alley for 4 years now I reckon. Nintendo lost their way a little trying to compete with Sony and Microsoft head on with Gamecube and stopped innovating a bit, I think they'll be back on top with the most original games again soon like they were with the N64.

Most people I worked with at games companies were die-hard Nintendo fans, and everyone I know who works at Sony loves Nintendo.. but they end up compromising gameplay for graphics or gimmicks at every stage.

GTA is mindless, I don't mind the violence, theres just not really a 'game' in there.
I think I'd actually consider going back into game design again if I could work on a revolution title.

yeah, GTA was terrible.
it seems now that when people say 'mature' it automatically means, violence, swearing and tits more than the actual gameplay..
as mdk said - fun doesn't have age limits.
I reckon this will be this will be the first console I buy the day it comes out!

played through farenheit indigo prophecy yesterday and was quite impressed. Starts of really well, simple controls etc. Pretty much an interactive story/adventure game. Well, that was until they decided to add an end of the world mayan twist to the tale, no doubt appealing to idiotic 15 year old boys that cant appreciate a good yarn, and instead, have to avoid their sad lives by having superhero fantasies. Total waste of what could have been a bit of a watershed in story in games.

Im not a big game player at all, im crap at them; but i like a good story. I think the makers of max payne 2, half life 2, gta sa (to a lesser extent) have realised that there are people out there like me who would much rather do something constructive than spend 3 weeks trying to get by level 7, and have a mode easy enough to just let you get by and go through the game having some fun. Just because you interact doesnt mean you it has to be primarily a 'game' in the traditional sense.

dont get me wrong, the stories are still pretty mince, maybe its about time for a british invasion, just like what happened at dc comics.

point and click rules the show.

no, the full thing and for a slightly sadder reason. My freind did get it early on wednesday though because he knew the guy in the shop, and he must have felt sorry for an adult who is on the dole looking at the box all the time. Was out on friday though wasnt it?

heres another article about how games need to change

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4561771.stm

I could have told you that! I was a maximum game freak from age of 8 to 28 and then suddenly stopped at the Dreamcast. It just got shit.

Turbografx 16.. nice I had a PC Engine.

I pretty much lost interest after Dreamcast too, I want games that will still be good and I can keep getting better at after 4 years... I hope that one day I'll like games again...
