could also be that you have some spam-/spyware installed in the back, like 'gator' for example that came with audiogalaxy. there's lots of stuff like this, it usually comes with free software (yes i also never read the license agreement) and it slows down your IE.

theres some software-tools to find and erase that stuff - maybe worth a try.

and yes microsiff is indeed a pain in the arse - i had to re-install my complete system a week ago and i still don't know why it was broken. seemed like a virus but i'm using norton antivirus so..
fucking xp-security-holes!

hmm i'm running the same xp installation for more than 6 months now without problems - that was totally impossible with 9x, with the lots of software i try out and have installed, sooner or later seomthing went wrong. and while 2000 was cool for music it was not as compatible. what were the symptoms ? a fucked up system is usually much more likely the result of a crashed driver or so. also for security holes i'd suggest adding a firewall to norton antivirus, but not norton internet security, rather zone alarm or so.

Ruben A, i had the same problem.... it was caused by the antivirus software (auto protection). i have disabled an option "scan files runned or opened" and now everything is fine.......
