EDIT - Coin Operated 001
New label "coin operated" is launched in fine fine style with this cracker from audio stuntman EDIT (not the one from planet mu).
For me, a lot of techno falls flat..it seems to have all the ingredients ie. nice noises, good beats, a good idea here and there etc. but just doesn't hold the attention... This is where mr. EDIT steps in and put things right using the tweakiest of sounds, the crunchiest of beats and KILLER arrangements that hold your attention throughout and leave you gagging for the next 'bit' whilst projecting a very english humour thats contained inside the beats and noises themselves. Edit gives us 4 inspiring tracks with a loud soundsystem friendly cut on the vinyl and the general message seems to be (as always with this producer) 'Fun, Originality, Fatness and Flair'. A1. BASE (slightly abusive mix) A floor rocking broken beast that flits between a heavy handed garage/grime parody and jerking techno, with the monster of all basslines rocking at all times. A2. 2X A sloppily sludgey techno stomp with first class crunch and expertly crafted tearing noises... hold on to something when this ones playing.. B1. BLACK KNIGHT Aah yes, ye olde monty python put in an appearance here with lengthy excerpts from that cherished bridge crossing scene from the holy grail. Similar in arrangement to BASE this also plays tagteam between breakbeat and 4/4 techno with high end noodling and high calorie basslines, the crescendo building to a.... well, you'll just have to listen. B2. ON TEST Vintage track finally made it to vinyl, and deservedly so, this time derrick and clive are at the helm with a barrage of zapping bleeps and wobbling bass gurns to back them up. But after re-reading this review i now realise that CLICK so just check it out for yourself. Some sound samples available HERE EDIT - COIN OPERATED 001
