Dj: Billy Nasty - Electro Set (Electrix, Tortured)
Headlining our Electrix party is the legendary Billy Nasty. He’s one of the most in-demand techno/electro Djs and performs all over the world every week and has been consistently featured in the annual Dj Magazine Top 100. Billy has enjoyed an extensive production career, collaborating with the likes of Anthony Rother, and also finds the time to runs the highly respected Tortured and Electrix record labels covering techno and electro. He has made several visits to Brazil and Columbia as well as an Australian expedition that took in Singapore’s world-renowned Zouk club on the way. Tortured is regarded as more than just a label with parties held under the Tortured banner worldwide. The first took place at the Miami WMC, followed by a session at New York’s Arc. The label also hosted tents at the Impulse and Dance Valley festivals in Holland. Now in 2005, with both labels well established and after nearly fourteen years as a professional Dj, Billy can boast a diary busier than ever before. He continues to turn his back on the cash-lined path, preferring instead to play for appreciative, knowledgeable crowds worldwide. Live: Transparent Sound (Electrix, Orson) Transparent Sound, the alter ego of Orson Bramley and Martin Brown, are part of Bognor’s ‘electro elite’, forming over ten years ago. They are now one of the UK’s longest running and most respected electro acts, having released their distinctive sound on many labels since the start of their recording career. They have been with Electrix since it’s inception and have released three singles and a longplayer entitled Emotional Amputation, which received rave reviews from the likes of Dave Clarke and Laurent Garnier. The magazines were equally keen to praise its qualities with Jockey Slut proclaiming that ‘Emotional Amputation is the best electro album out in the year’. The subsequent Emotional Amputation tour saw the guys rocking dance floors all over the UK and Europe. Since then, the duo have gigged extensively worldwide, playing live and Djing at major clubnights and festivals including Fabric, Dance Valley and Trans Europe Express as well as regular UK appearances at their own Freaks Frequency parties and on Radio One. More recently, they have been holed up in their studio, ‘The Chilli Plant’, producing their second album, Haircut Fantasy, to be released later this year through Exceptional Records. New Resident Dj - Mark Turner (The Orbit, Player) For September we would like to announce our new monthly resident Dj, Mark Turner! Mark is one of the UK's longest standing techno Djs. He was the resident Dj at the infamous Orbit techno night, held in Morley, Leeds, first playing in the backroom before being made the resident in the main room due to his extensive skills on the turntables. He has played out at some of the biggest techno parties in the UK and co-runs the hard-as-nails Player imprint along with Mike Humphries and Jon Nuccle. You’ll also find Mark behind the counter at one of Manchester’s longest standing and best record shops, Eastern Bloc, where he works full time. Techno aside, his main love is all things electro. A true multi-skilled Dj, he’s played at Sequence and Computer Controlled many times over the last twelve months. He headlined Sequence in December, busting out a booty/ghetto tek set that could have come straight outta Detroit. He followed this by playing Computer Controlled in March where he tore it up with an all-out electro set and Sequence in June where he stole the show, taking us back to 1984 with a classic old school electro set using Ableton Live, FX and a vocoder. http://www.electrixrecords.co.uk/ http://www.transparentsound.co.uk/ http://www.easternblocrecords.co.uk/Staff/Staff2.asp |
