Solid British Safety Awareness Pays Off

Last night, I was over at my friends new flat in Barcelona, it was their 2nd night there, and we were all up on the roof terrace having some wine and relaxing, when I noticed a flickering coming from the door that led back down into the flat.. I ask if there's any candles downstairs, and they say no, so I go down to have a look and the electric cooker has set fire to a cardboard box full of wine glasses, the flames are pretty high, but it hadn't spread... quick as you like, Ive got a damp dishcloth and i'm smothering the fire, enough to get the cardboard off the hob into the sink and switch off the cooker. Just a few seconds, maybe 10.

I reckon we can be thankful to all the British Safety awareness education i was given at school , as well as a good dose of luck ... I don't think they really do the damp dishcloth thing over here, first aid and basic safety skills seem to be considered special training.

Anyway, be aware! Accidents do happen!

Don't put a rug down on a freshly polished floor. You might as well put a mantrap.

I was actually only saying the other day that we don't seem to have this public information films on anymore. Sure they were funny and stupid, but people remembered them. I used the wet cloth on a fire in the past, and it works really well.

He's sorted if he ever lives near either a railway line or a farm. I think I even saw one about a building site once.
