No their not, they are useless there too.

I have a 6 Disc CD changer in the boot of my car.

It's a pain in the arse, I listen to all the music, then it's always a hassle to get into the boot to swap discs around, plus the fact that I don't have many CD's just means I end up listening to same burnt CDR's day in day out.

Gets tedious after a while....

I think an MP3 player with an iTrip type FM transmitter is the way forward.

They are terrible. It's impossible to find even a remotely clear frequency band in most cities, and even when I'm in the middle of the countryside in Dorset its still pretty bad. I've used a couple of models and they all suffer from periodic high pitched whines and nasty rumbling bottom even when you have a clear frequency. It never sounds as good as the signal you get on Radio 1 either..

And then if you're doing a long motorway journey you have to retune the transmitter about 3 or 4 times..

Nice Idea, pretty shit in reality.

I have a CD player in my car. I didn't want a multidisc changer, just have a slot loader on the dash. If I want to listen to loads of CDs, I simply take a CD wallet of CDs in the car with me.

I've just bought one of those so I can listen to my MP3 player over the park on my ghettoblaster without the hassle of tapes

A single CD player would is much better than a multichanger in the boot.

They where a proper 80's invention that is totally outdated now.

ITrip was great in Kerry, Ireland but frequences are jam packed in UK cities But I still use my itrip around the house now with a little radio.

For your car the best way is to install RCA connectors directly on your receiver. Car hi-fi shops will do this in a few minutes for nearly as cheap as one of those crappy tape thingies.

I had an mp3 cd player for my car but it is hard to look after your CDRs in the car for concentration and lack of space. They end up being unplayable after a couple of days.

As for medium longeivity, my old vinyl (upto 50 yrs old) still play fine and many of my older CDs (10-15 yrs old) don't play at all. CDRs die within about 2 yrs. Vinyl wins!
