Analogue Bubblebath 5

..was given as a token gesture to all those Analord 10 binder buyer's who got screwed over by Rephlex's inability to use recorded delivery.

My binder was two weeks late, i emailed them and then i eventually tracked it down at the post office. Yesterday i got sent another one and the AB 5 12.

Question is, is an official repress gonna happen? I reckon they've probably repressed 100 copies or so of this (a generous estimate considering how many had problems with their orders). Do i sell and run the risk of it not being repressed or cash in now in the hope that it will be be. Proper dilema, someone was telling me that three years ago this fucker went for 2 grand on the bay of e.

Wicked record, well chuffed.

Binder and complete set is going up. Dunno whether to sit on it or cash in now. I'll kick myself if they do an official repress of AB 5 and i didn't flog it. Then again i'll kick myself if i flog it and they don't. Decisions.

i'd just flog the set and sit on the ab 5 original, even if they do re-press it the 'ardcore nutters that pay top dollar will still pay for original over repress, imho.

Turn it into a fruit bowl, all you have to do is put it in the oven, rested on an object in the middle, then you can sell an AB5 fruitbowl for nuff dollar

you haven't seen my record collection, nor my overdraft then

I once spent £120 on an EP.

(I was only joking about the CDR, by the way)

yep

I've seen it go for over £300 in ebay recently

not that I'd ever sell any of my record collection, it's worth more to me than any money I could get for it.

why is it any more insane than buying the vinyl?

I still get all the artwork, the actual product, and unlike vinyl, the quality won't degrade the more I play it.

and decimate it to 4 bits.

It will sound so different you could do your own repress and sell it as an AB 6 bootleg.

If it were me, I'd sell it all while it's overvalued and you don't have an emotional attachment to it. There's too much good ordinary price music out there.

But maybe you should wait a couple of months for the dust to settle? They're likely to give you a bit of a breather before a repress, as a gesture I reckon. And it will appreciate quite a bit over the next few months.

Eh? Yes it will. CDs wear out too.

I can understand wanting to have original artwork, but really, once it's in the CD player who can tell? The difference with vinyl is that normally the music is not available on any other format, and as most people buy vinyl to DJ with there's no other option - unlike with CDs. Unless you want to go down the digital DJing route, but that's a whole different kettle of fish.

they don't degrade as quickly as vinyl can, though, since in the very act of playing vinyl, you are scraping a tiny layer off the top of the groove.

The CD that I bought is not available in any format any longer, there were only about 3000 pressed to start off with, and I'd assume not a lot of those have survived 14 years or so.

I am also not a DJ, since I only have a single deck, and when I have tried in the past, I'm well shit.

The music means much to me, and actually owning it, rather than just downloading it or having a CDR, means a lot more to me, it's a strange sentimental value I cannot quite explain.

CD are not colectable IMO.

You can make an exact mockup with a CD burner and an inkjet printer for 50p.

Stupid bits of worthless plastic.

CDs are degraded by playing (laser damage vs stylus damage) and, unlike vinyl which when stored properly will last indefinitely, CDs can degrade without being played too!!! The playing damage will depend on the quality of the manufacture of either medium and of the machine you're playing it on, but play vinyl with a decent stylus and it'll last as long as a CD, or longer.

And I bet the CD you bought is available in high quality mp3 format on a p2p network, for free. Bet you could even get scans of the artwork from somewhere if it means that much.

I realise that you're not a DJ and have less use for vinyl, but really, £120 for a CD is taking sentimentality to extreme lengths I reckon. Perhaps my vinyl collecting mind is just having problems computing this into logic.

CDs are good for putting on when you don't want to get up and turn the record over every 10 minutes, in a social situation, or if it's super-ambient stuff that suffers from surface noise, but other than the advantage of their size/weight, pre-recorded CDs are only good for ripping to mp3, imo, for listening to your records on the move. CDr on the other hand, is a wonderful medium (despite degrading very quickly indeed).

Still, each to his own. It's your money.

you're all a bunch of vinyl-snobs

let us just agree to disagree. I don't want a high quality home made copy of the CD I bought, I want the actual one, which is what I've got.

here, have an Aphex Twin Limo for us all to enjoy:
