Did anyone see the documentary on C4 last night on the making of the A380 (the Jumbo Airbus)...
That had a quality landing in crosswind - also at Hong Kong I believe... I think it was 747 - it had 4 engines and came down heavy on one undercarriage, so heavy in fact that the engines on that side came very, very close to clipping the ground - now that was hairy... They were using it to demonstrate that each individual set of undercarriage on a plane has to be able to take the weight of the whole plane... |

A 747 can actually fly and land with just one of it's 4 engines working, apparently.

It can fly and land with none of it's engine working... I saw a documentary where a 747 ran out of fuel and had to do an emergency landing in the middle of the atlantic. Some fuck up with the procedures had meant it took off with hardly any fuel, got out over the atlantic and then the captain had to announce to everyone that he'd ran out of fuel and they'd be making an emergency landing in Jamaica or something - can you imagine getting that over your in-flight announcement - proper brick your pants time... |

"we'll be making an emergency landing in Jamaica" would be a lot better than "we'll be making an emergency landing in Milton Keynes" tho wouldn't it?
Still... on balance I think i'd prefer to just land normally. ........................... lovely cloakroom. lovely cloaks - barbam nondum video |

I dunno.. a jumbo jet landing in the middle of Milton Keynes might do it a world of good ........................... "If you can't tell what genre the track you're making is you should have your instruments taken away and made to stand in the corner." |

Do you know that, at least for Emirates, the airline call-centre staff calculate the loading of the planes for working out the fuel? Doesn't bear thinking about...

surely that's normal, as the weight of the plane is going to dictate how much fuel you need.... |
