is holland cool?

Might be moving to the Netherlands soon for work. Dunno much about it, there are obvious bonuses like being able to smoke the best bud available to mankind with a clear conscience.

Are there any NF members that have been there or live there who could comment?

that would be lekker.

I've only been to Amsterdam twice, but once you get away from the seedy bit it was really nice. People seem to have a good attitude generally and it seemed like everyone spoke English. Second time I was there, I was mapping out the city for my job so I wasn't really in the touristy bits at all and got a really good feel for the place, I'd love to live there. I know a couple of people who live there and the cost of living seems good compared to other similar cities in Europe.

dutch cities are cool - some of the towns can be very conservative. 'tolerance' is so part of the culture that you're never really sure whether people are really racist or sexist etc.. because they generally just don't say it. weed ain't that big a thing over there as it is here. weed is underground culture here because its illegal - most kids stop smoking it about the time they go in the army and few dutch people I know smoked it in their 20s and 30s. its really flat and therefore great for cycling but less good for the view - unless you like dutch fields.

it is generally very good if you get into the dutch life rather than being an ex-pat. most people hapily speak english to you but don't expect everybody to be that polite in dutch bars if theres 10 dutch people and you, johny englander.

overall its cool, really lovely people and its what you make of it. if you like cities don't be moving to a small town... do what you like in this country.

peace.

I'm Dutch and he's right... One advice, go to a city like Rotterdam, Amsterdam, or Den-Haag etc. Small town's are boring and there is another mentality... But that is probably the same in Brittain.

Which city were you planning to go to?

Dunno about holland, but when i worked in spain all i had to do was register with the county, get a few numbers etc. You could call it a visa and a work permit, but it really was just a case of filling in a few forms because we are all EU.

scott confusion lived in holland for years, could pm him.

Why not in Amsterdam? Personally I prefer the city... a lot more things happening in the city then outside...
When chosing Rotterdam I know a very good record store... really worth checking out (de oorzaak). Also an important factor ofcourse, sources of vinyl

i lived in holland for the best part of 2 years.. best part being the summer months..

good things- lovelly country.. loads of weed.. brilliant benefits if u have worked there.. great music scene.. exillent recycling facilities..

bad things- dutch language sounds like u have 2 golf balls stuck in yer mouth.. the food is shit.. old dutch people are wanks... everything is flat..

all in all i had a good time.

i've only been there once, but i have to say the people there were undoubtedly the friendliest, most helpful motherfuckers i've ever encountered on my travels. i've never been to any other country where you can stand there looking lost and have people actually approach you and offer you help

and not nick your wallet

Only if you go to all the places that are full of drunken brits on stag doos

Thats like saying London is shit based on experiences in Leicester square... or experiencess of New York in Times square... I spent a lot of time in the areas which don't really get tourists and it was lush.

Too right. It's very unfair to dismiss London based on Leicester Square. It's shit coz it's full of Londoners.

/edit/ Scott - you beat me to it!
