I've had my Kyma system for a while now and its only now I'm getting used to the workflow in Kyma. There is a big learning curve to get over at the start. It works as a sort of halfway point between Reaktor or the Nord Mod with its graphic signal flow and a proper programming language as can put bits of smalltalk code into modules to run calcs to generate a value.
eg this picks a new chaotic number every !ChangeCount number of beats and glides to it. ((1 bpm: !BPM / !ChangeCount) nextChaotic: 0.88) smooth: (!BPM / !ChangeCount bpm s) |

Okay... seems to be fun... but could you achieve easely waht you want form it. Or it's more like trial and error sort of test.
I have a solid background with Nord Modular and Reaktor... not as good in Max/MSP.... So with all the modules they offerering in Kyma, is it more like a modular box linkage with small line of code to change in the module you want? |

Think of the code sections as replacements for faders, where a fader would control a filter cutoff or something you can use a module that contains the code you need to generate the values instead. As well as generic smalltalk code Symbolic have a set of kyma specific extensions to smalltalk called capytalk that do musical things like trigger something every x beats.
The main signal flow in a sound is still built up in a modular boxes type environment like this ![]() Its a lot less trial and error than have a good idea about what you want before you start. You can be very precise with kyma setting up sort of scripts for params like start at valX gilde up to valY over 4.32323 seconds etc. |

One thing though, if I could only have one piece of equipment it WOULDN'T be kyma. It isn't the anwswer to everything, it's not immediate enough.

hummm... okay nice input. yenorom.. I thought that Capybara would be a nice complement to my actual setup. I don't want to spend a year to learn something (like I did with Reaktor + Nord Modular) spending hours to create a nice sound but no traks.
