Don't have it. The idea of getting it scares me witless tho.

I know someone who was a roadie and had it and it sounded awful. He had that ringing sound you get after gigs 24/7 every minute of every waking day. He said most of the time he could deal, but sometimes he almost felt like he was going insane.

I used to work with a fellar who had it that bad, he wore these things that looked like hearing aids.. but they actually just played constant white noise into his ears.. it helps block it out apparently. Maybe they even tune them so they are missing the specific tinitus frequencies to try and create some kind of regularity.

Yeah I had a mate in Brighton who was a studio engineer and had mild tinnitus. He always wore these really expensive ear plugs (circa £200) when he went out. Can't blame him really.

I am slightly deaf on high frequencies in one ear. Not sure if that's going to loads of gigs and clubs, or a holdover from my childhood (where I couldn't hear high frequencies at all, so much so, that my mum had to train herself to talk lower, as I couldn't hear her)

I have very mild tinnitus. I usually don't notice it until I go to bed...but it's always there.
It sounds like a high-pitched triangle wave (~C6): eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee It's probably a blessing because it's enough to make me more careful. |

that's it. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I have it. not really bad, but it is there. my left ear is the worst (thank you christ analogue! I owe you one). also djing hasn't helped either. as I use my left ear for monitoring the headphones. it sucks. I always use ear plugs now. I have some decent ones that were pretty inexpensive. but I would like to get some custom ones. www.gudhears.com |

got it too. think too much drumming as a kid an then loud clubs, djing and producing on too high volume (not anymore of course but u know
)...got to get some special plugs, not to make it worse. but you can get used to iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii iiiiiiiiiiiiit.some say that it can have psychological reasons if you get it. too much volume evokes stress for example.... there are different types of it i think. some people have some slight constant tone. others get some harsh bleep sounds for some seconds minutes, which i think are really much worse cause it comes and go like a headache attack. anyway you still can have a totally functional hearing of all frequencies... |

I get it sometimes and I can tune it out by concentrating on that frequency and sort of phasing it out. Hard to explain but it works for me.

I think that was how mine was caused too. It's my right-ear which is the ear I use for monitoring. I think it's hard to appreciate how loud the monitor signal is when listening to it on only one ear. It's very easy to over do the levels. |

afaik, there are two kinds of tinitus, one is actual damage to your hearing while the other is purely psychological.
I have a mild tinitus which seems to stem from hearing damage, I don't really notice it unless my environment is _really_ silent, so I'm lucky. Got myself the special earplugs for going out as well though ![]() ........................... Dawn appeared, fresh and rosy fingered |

I've had mild tinitus for 11 years. I wear ER-15 custom moulded earplugs whenever I go out (even to the pub if it's noisy, and often on the Tube, esp. the Victoria Line). Had them for about 4 years now, best purchase I've ever made I reckon, I recommend them to anyone and everyone.
I have some info on earplugs on my website: http://www.arcart.org/earplugs.htm |
