i must admit my fave album is south of heaven, although i do like reign in blood seasons in the abyss, hell awaits and show no mercy equally, but south of heaven just beats them, for me at least |

recently its been deicide - deicide...
that bit at 1:57...gets me every time... cannibal corpse - decency defied i still love the older stuff, if i was to choose any metallica i think it would have to be 'to live is to die' and 'dyers eve' together ![]() and all of slayer's 'reign in blood'...i think that might still be the best metal album ever, but if i had to choose, probably 'postmortem' or 'raining blood' i could go on for days...theres just too much good stuff ![]() choice few : Carcass - necroticism - descanting the insalubrious At the gates - slaughter of the soul and stepping back a yard, the first black sabbath album is mighty... |

ooh...good choice...
my favourite of theirs is 'where next to conquer' from the 4th crusade.. i'll have to dig out warmaster again ![]() also my live favourite is probably Suicidal Tendencies... Mike Muir is totally crazy..amazing presence on stage... my favourite song is probably : 'You cant bring me down' right, someone organize a club night where we can bring along our favourite metal records, and i'll dig out my old anthrax t-shirts ![]() |

metallica's master of puppets does it for me.
anything by slayer. reign in blood, south of heaven, seasons in the abyss and god hates us all being my favorites. also they are in the top three of best live acts of any genre that I've seen. so in tribute I'm putting on slayer: live undead picture disc that cost me a pretty penny. megadeth: I am not a huge fan but dave mustaine is one of the best metal guitarists. the album rust in peace is a metal masterpiece, from start to finish it's top notch. holy wars: the punishment due is such a brutal and complex song. definitely one of my all time favorite metal album. sepultura: beneath the remains is a seminal album not only for them but for heavy metal in general. it was the first metal album that really challenged slayer's reign in blood. many metal critics place this album as their number 2 album of all time. this album not only placed sepultura on the metal map, but the albums engineer scott burns. this is the first album scott engineered on his own. metal blade records sent scott to brazil to record with a strict time and money budget. the album was recorded in like six weeks. and after it's success scott went on to be metal blades' main engineer and recorded with many big time bands, deicide being one. pantera: how can you not like this band? from the ground up pantera rocks. vinnie paul, he is such a bad ass! his drums have such a unique sound. vinnie's brother and co founder of the band, the late dimebag darrell was another one of the best metal guitarists ever. when he was a teenager, dimebag was ultimately banned from any guitar contest held in the state of texas because he kept on winning them all. it's a shame he wont be around to make any more dope music. then you got phil anselmo, he's just got that raw metal voice. none of that cookie monster growling. and again another awesome recording engineer terry date, who has done work with the deftones. honorable mentions: candiria cephalic carnage mastodon Last edited by Sheridan : 11th April 2005 at 20:56. |

re: pantera
i was on a (building) site about a year ago and the carpentry firm was called Pantera, presumably the owners name was kinda odd seeing all these chippies walking about with their hi-viz vests on with Pantera written across the back in big letters |

i like the album opus 4 of abigor. i hate black metal, but this one is really a great piece of music. i wouldn't say it's black metal, it's more space-metal. also napalm death - scum is the shit and entombed, pungent stench, brutal truth, tiamat, old sepultura, cannibal corpse, carcass, death, cynic, ...

another band I meant to mention was helmet. not heavy metal per se. but still rocking. paige hamilton is one of my musical heroes. Classically trained jazz guitarist who helped start the new york noise core sound in the late 80s/early 90s. they have that straight ahead simplistic approach. to me, paige hamilton is the robert hood of hard rock/heavy metal.
also, ozzy osborne. his solo stuff can be hit or miss. but he's got some real gems and is a metal legend. judas priest! rocking band with openly gay leather clad lead singer, rob halford. what more can you ask for? rob halford has a distinguishable voice, and his solo work with fight was heavy as hell. gwar. I shouldn't even have to say why. Last edited by Sheridan : 12th April 2005 at 03:19. |

system of a down. you either love them or hate them. complex rhythms with changing time signatures. plus great lyrics and singer. and rick ruben producing is always a bonus.
motorhead: fuckin' lemmy man. a true metal soldier. ok, I really need to stop! Last edited by Sheridan : 12th April 2005 at 04:07. |

i bought this recently cos it got a great write up on amazon and people were saying it was a sort of semi-legendary album... it's very odd, i quite like it but those vocodered vocals really get a bit too much after a while. my faves are brutal truth, godflesh, all your modern melodic shit like isis, some black metal like emperor, goatsnake and all your doom bods... no, keep going ![]() its great to find out some names of stuff i missed over the years (or just couldnt read because of the ridiculous fonts they use for their names) motorhead is what really got me into metal...seeing the first motorhead album in my dads collection and thinking 'what the fuck is that'...looked a bit different to the beatles records and otis redding ![]() then that was it...day after day just playing that record over and over and over... 'iron horse' does it for me... |

I confess: I was a teenage metalhead
Metallica - Master of Puppets, though And Justice for All is quality too Slayer - Reign in Blood Nuclear Assault - the one with Buttfuck and Hang the Pope on it Anthrax - Among the Living GWAR Lawnmower Death (who basically just ripped off Nuclear Assault) Motorhead Sabbath - fucking great band, love em. some Judas Priest still have a soft spot for the first two Iron Maiden albums also some of the classic "rawk" bands like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple etc who aren't really metal imo, plus Gun'N'Roses, early Van Halen plus: early Red Hot Chilli Peppers Faith No More Pantera Suicidal Tendancies Bad Brains Mr Bungle Primus Not really metal but still heavy: early Ween Butthole Surfers I was never into Poison/Motley Crew or any of that LA glam shit though, nor the death metal stuff like Carcass. Napalm Death were ok. most "metal" album cover: Man'O'War - Kings of metal ![]() |
