Neil Landstrumm & S.e.s. "fighting Spirit"
artist: Neil landstrumm & Sugar Experiment Station
title: Fighting spirit label: Iron Oxide cat. no.: FE03 distribution: Veto Noticed a surprising lack of harder techno in the reviews section so thought i'd chuck this one in... This is a relatively new label hailing from Birmingham with an already impressive artist roster..past releases from DJ Valyom, our own favourite tonewrecker Paul Birken and an imminent ep from old hand, Chance McDermott. It's not totally clear but i believe the first three tracks are Landstrumm on his tod....starting off with a punchy broken beat monster with all the Neilisms present and correct, ample jiggery-pokery soon ensues whilst keeping the focus firmly on the dancefloor. Next up is a down beat sonic-electronic hiphopper with some nice sombrely uplifting noodlings, in keeping with the landstrumm spirit... Flipping to the B side and straight into some peak time straight up floor mashers, beginning with another heavy beast packed full of enough subtle keyboard work to keep your brain racing and the usual tight as a knot drum programming - theres even a blatent but cheeky sample of LFO leeds warehouse mix that keeps popping up and adds to the melting pot, confirming the influences that the music already displays. Lastly, Tobias Schmidt joins the fun under their Sugar Experiment Station guise.. Its the one we all know and love - but bugger, I can't remember the name - It's "THE ONE" off one of the early scandinavia releases, but this version was recorded live at HOG and by christ it's a good'un, really capturing the excitement of the live performance.... ......OUT SOON Neil Landstrumm/Sugar Experiment Station
